Here's a side-by-side playlist by two joint-venture-owned Capital Radio Network/Grant Broadcasters' stations, both of which uses the "Forever Classic" positioner.
One is from 2CA in Canberra, which is a 4-station commercial regional market, while the other is from 6iX in Perth, a 6-station commercial metro market.

Here it is below.

A tale of two "Forever Classic" stations
Monday 12th April 2010 - 11am-12pm AEST (9-10am AWST)

2CA - Canberra

"Father & Son" Cat Stevens
"Make Me Lose Control" Eric Carmen
"You Make Me Feel Like Dancing" Leo Sayer
"California Dreamin'" The Mamas & The Papas
"Private Dancer" Tina Turner
"It's Too Late" Carole King
"In Too Deep" Genesis
"#9 Dream" John Lennon
"Crush" Jennifer Paige
"She's Gone" Hall & Oates
"I Was Made To Love Her" Stevie Wonder
"One Summer" Daryl Braithwaite
"Tequila Sunrise" The Eagles

6iX - Perth

"Invisible Touch" Genesis
"Oh Very Young" Cat Stevens
"Got To Get You Into My Life" The Beatles
"On Broadway" George Benson
"All I Wanna Do Is Make Love To You" Heart
"Sweet Home Alabama" Lynyrd Skynyrd
"Working For The Man" Roy Orbison
"Hot Summer Nights" Night
"Somebody's Baby" Jackson Browne
"Imagine" John Lennon
"Heroes & Villains" Beach Boys
"Harden My Heart" Quarterflash
"Melting Pot" Blue Mink

Notice the difference on the music flow between the two stations, despite using the same positioner. You could see that 2CA has a bit more of an easy listening/Adult Contemporary sound, whilst 6iX is more of a real "classic hits" station (WS & Gold, take note! ;)). It's worth noting that 6iX has its 'secondary' positioner, "The Greatest Hits of the 60s, 70s & 80s", which is being used in one of their on-air IDs.

Comments are welcome about the above playlists. :)

Time for another side-by-side playlist from me.
Since 3BA Ballarat is now streaming online (see "Grant Broadcasters" thread), I thought I would compare 2EC (NSW) with 3BA (VIC), considering that they're both owned by Grant Broadcasters. :)
Getting 2EC's log is done by listening to its 765AM service from Bega, which can be heard into Sydney at night quite well.

The following makes for interesting comparisons for some of us. ;)

A tale of two Grant Broadcasters "Heritage" stations
2EC vs 3BA
Tuesday 13th April 2010 - 8-9pm AEST

2EC - Bega/Batemans Bay, NSW
"Playing Your Favourites"

"If You Leave Me, Can I Come Too" Mental As Anything
"The Boy Does Nothing" Alesha Dixon
"Bend Me Shape Me" The American Breed
"Rivers of Babylon" Boney M
"The River of Dreams" Billy Joel
"Stop Your Fussin'" Toni Childs
"You Belong With Me" Taylor Swift
"Pop Muzik" M
"Walk Like An Egyptian" The Bangles
"Devil Woman" Cliff Richard
"Downtown Train" Rod Stewart
"Take A Letter Maria" R.B. Greaves
"West End Girls" Pet Shop Boys
"More Than Words" Extreme

3BA-FM 102.3 - Ballarat, VIC
"Great Classics & Today's Favourites"

"Come On Eileen" Dexy's Midnight Runners
"The Game of Love" Santana feat. Michelle Branch
"Don't Leave Me This Way" Thelma Houston
"By My Side" INXS
"California Girls" David Lee Roth
"Radio Gaga" Queen
"My Guy" Mary Wells
"Hey Soul Sister" Train
"Love Shack" The B-52s
"Most People I Know" Billy Thorpe & The Aztecs
"Walking On Broken Glass" Annie Lennox
"Take The L" Motels

Comments are welcome. :)

Well, I'd choose 3BA for that hour, but only just. Neither's really quite for me.

But most importantly Mr TV_Expert, which did you prefer? And how are you enjoying listening to 3BA up there?

I think 2EC wins out for me, mainly for more 'classic hits' tracks being played there, along with the fact that it sounded more different to what the Sydney, Gosford & Wollongong/Campbelltown commercial music stations offer.

And how are you enjoying listening to 3BA up there?

I'm quite enjoying it, but probably not up to my high expectations compared to when I first heard it back in 2003-04 (whilst on holidays in Ballarat), as well as from your logs that you posted back in mid 2008 & early 2009. Otherwise, it's not a bad listen.

I'm thinking that billybob_chider would have an opinion about this. ;)

3BA played "Hey, Soul Sister", which is enough to make me switch off the station completely. I've not heard this yet on 2EC, so this alone is a deal breaker for me. 2EC is rarely inconsistent with their playlists and this is admirable given the 'silly buggers' that most other stations play these days.

Take the three songs I've left in the 2EC playlist out,& I'd give it a go.The only two I find offensive in the 3BA list are Train & Annie Lennox, which for me get offset by the three I've given the "cool" smiley to.
So for that particular hour 3BA wins. But neither list inspires me to bother streaming either station.
If I agreed with you we'd both be wrong

Well, you only have 3BA to choose from when it comes to streaming it online anyway, as 2EC doesn't provide online streaming (I receive it via 765AM from Bega for the latter station). But yes, point taken.

I think that based on your past posts, 2ST in Nowra would be your favourite Grant Broadcasters "Heritage" station, as their music mix suited you quite well, at least when you're not listening to either Triple M, Classic Rock, Star 104.5 or B-Rock for your rock music fix. :)

Here's one from blast from the past. :)

I've posted the following in another forum back in the day, but here's a side-by-side playlist of 2EC & 2ST from September 2007.

2EC vs 2ST - A tale of two Grant Broadcasters "Heritage" stations
Monday, 10th September 2007 - 6-7pm AEST

2EC - Bega/Batemans Bay, NSW

"The Riddle" Nik Kershaw
"Steer" Missy Higgins
"My Girl" The Temptations
"Ramblin Man" Allman Brothers Band
"Make Me Lose Control" Eric Carmen
"Low" Kelly Clarkson
"Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark" Robert Clay Band
"Drift Away" Dobie Gray
"How Do I Live" Trisha Yearwood
"You Can't Hurry Love" Diana Ross & The Supremes
"(Your Love Has Lifted Me) Higher & Higher" Rita Coolidge
"Romeo & Juliet" Dire Straits

2ST - Nowra, NSW

"Reeling In The Years" Steely Dan
"Steer" Missy Higgins
"You Are" Lionel Ritchie
"Don't Know Why" Norah Jones
"Maggie May" Rod Stewart
"You're Still The One" Shania Twain
"Axel F" Harold Faltermeyer
"Sweet Caroline" Neil Diamond
"So Beautiful" Darren Hayes
An easy listening song from the 70s or early 80s (couldn't identify the name of the song & the artist)
"Harley & Rose" The Black Sorrows
"Elevator Love" Guy Sebastian
"Walk Right In" Dr Hook

Since 2007, 2EC's format hasn't really changed. As for 2ST however, their format has changed quite considerably since then, in which they play more rock-skewed tracks that would be heard on stations such as Wave FM & 2GO, and much less easy listening-type tracks.

3BA in Ballarat, another Grant Broadcasters "Heritage" station, has their format being changed quite considerably quite well, especially when you compare their playlists from mid 2008 & early 2009, compared to now.

In relation to Michael Westen's log of stations from the United States, I thought their record industry association had put a stop to all USA commercial radio internet streams from being heard outside of United States due to music copyright / licensing issues...

Seems as though a few stations are slipping through the net...

Here's a playlist from a Grant Broadcasters-owned station that has just started streaming today. That station is located just 80km east of Adelaide & does provide a decent alternative to the Adelaide adult commercial music radio stations (MIX 102.3, 5MMM & Cruise), as the station's AM signal gets into many parts of the Adelaide metro area quite well.

Looking at the playlist below, this could be SA's equivalent of 2EC, except that it's much more "classic hits" oriented.

1125 5MU - Murray Bridge, SA
"The Best Songs of All Time"
Thursday, 6th May 2010 - 4-5pm ACST (4:30-5:30pm AEST)

"I'd Really Love To See You Tonight" England Dan & John Ford Coley
"Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You" Glenn Medeiros
"Don't Worry Baby" The Beach Boys
"Dreadlock Holiday" 10cc
"Fearless" Taylor Swift
"In Dreams" Roy Orbison
"Centerfold" J Geils Band
"We Don't Talk Anymore" Cliff Richard
"Reunited" Peaches & Herb
"He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" The Hollies
"Mambo No. 5" Lou Bega
"Castles In The Air" Don McLean
"Everybody's Talkin'" Nilsson

If I was holidaying in Adelaide, I would be listening to 5MU quite a bit whilst there. ;)

4 Zinc

Zinc would have to be one of the lamest stations around, I just wish Prime would sell Zinc and let someone with pride like Rebel Media buy there station ( Wishfull thinking ). Zinc's sister station 4RO would have to be one of the best classic stations around :)) Its a very poplar station with the Baby Boomer Generation around Rocky with its Talk and Classic Hit format.

It's pretty depressing though what we have up here. Often "NEW" songs would be months old, and Sea FM has too many talk programs on it particularly when you're working late (or early Sunday Mornings) as I often do.

Rosella?? - Pop song from the 80's

I suspect it's Toto - "Rosanna"?

My pick from those logs would be 4RO although for the duration of the Inxs song I'd probably switch to Hot fm if they're playing the Fooies

Yeah, I'd have 4RO then maybe Sea, they do a better job of rock than Zinc do. Quite depressing really, from all reports Zinc used to be a wicked rock station, but I know when I was up in QLD I wasn't all that impressed.

Nice that Hot FM throws in the occasional gem in amongst the top-40 stuff, makes it a lot more bearable for someone like me. Though if I was a fan of "new" music, I'd be disappointed too.

I would have to agree with you on that. I would go as far as to say that 4RO is something what WS-FM, Gold 104 & to an extent, 4KQ, isn't, when it comes to being a true "Classic Hits" station. It seems to be a "sad but true" story that regional stations do the "Classic Hits" format way better than most of the metro stations. The only metro station in Australia that does the true "Classic Hits" format as good as the regionals is 6iX in Perth, who are not owned by ARN (unlike WS, Gold & 4KQ).

For those outside of Rockhampton/Central QLD, 4RO does stream online if anyone wants to check them out on-air. ;)
