2EC's poisoner not 'A Better Music Mix' but acturaly 'Playing Your Favorites'

The music sweeps that you get that conclusion from are OLD!!! And im talking 5-8 years+ old.

last year all the imaging was updated to 'Playing Your Summer Favorites' for the summer months with a 'Playing Your Favorites' alternative also made for the rest of the year but never got loaded in to the playout system/clocks

2EC has many poisoners
'Your Sports Action Station, 2EC
'Your Footy Action Station, 2EC
'Playing Your Favorites, 2EC
'Playing Your Summer Favorites, 2EC

Only the music sweeps refer to the old posisioner 'A Better Music Mix' All the other Imaging and on air use the above.

Here's another side-by-side hourly playlist that I've completed just now, this time between 2EC & 2CA.
I've done this before, but this was when 2EC were in automation mode. This time around, it's when both stations are live-and-local & when more people are listening as they head home from work.

Anyway, here it is (done by flicking between the live streaming of the aforementioned two stations).

Friday, 6th August 2010
4-5pm AEST

2EC - Bega/Batemans Bay, NSW
"A Better Music Mix"

"It's Still Rock n Roll To Me" Billy Joel
"Fireflies" Owl City
"Slipping Away" Max Merritt & The Meteors
"Amazing" George Michael
"Show No Mercy" Mark Williams
"World Where You Live" Crowded House
"Let It Be" The Beatles
"Lyin' Eyes" The Eagles
"How Will I Know" Whitney Houston

2CA - Canberra
"Forever Classic"

Mini-Countdown - 1975
5. "Beach Baby" First Class
4. "Angie Baby" Helen Reddy
3. "I Can Help" Billy Swan
2. "Junior's Farm" Paul McCartney & Wings
1. "Kung Fu Fighting" Carl Douglas
End of Mini-Countdown
"Waiting For A Girl Like You" Foreigner
"Different Drum" Stone Poneys feat. Linda Ronstadt
"Life In A Northern Town" Dream Academy
"Day After Day" Badfinger
"Going Up The Country" Canned Heat
"Leave A Tender Moment Alone" Billy Joel
"I'll Be Around" Doug Parkinson & The Southern Star Band

Someone here in this forum may find this surprising for me to say this, but I believe that 2CA had a better hour of music than 2EC in this instance, and it's not for the first time either that I've come to this conclusion, even if the 'mini-countdown' is taken out of the equation. However, at least 2EC does keep up its targeted older listeners up to date with some of the newer music they play that 2CA (as well as 2GN & 2XL) don't play, as well as playing some of the favourites from the 60s to the 00s.

The above songs played on 2CA's mini-countdown on 1975 wouldn't even be heard on WS-FM's "Classic 9 @ 9" on 1975, in which you'll more likely to hear The Eagles, Pink Floyd ("Wish You Were Here") & Kiss, among a number of other rock-skewed acts.

Thanks for the clarification.
I've fixed my previous post to replace "A Better Music Mix" with "Playing Your Favourites" under 2EC. :)

2EC's hour there sounds a touch bland for mine. Certainly doesn't match the dizzying heights many here claim it to be.

2CA isn't too bad, but it does have an old, daggy feel. Still, it's different to everything else. I wonder how a similar format might rate in Sydney or Melbourne if a station decided to take it on (I'm looking at you 2SM)

Just looking at the playlists from the other day-how on earth can anyone possibly want to hear that crappy Fireflies song (at all) in amongst some classics (though they're all overplayed)?

What's the EC stand for-short for Eccentric? (polite version of what I was going to suggest)
If I agreed with you we'd both be wrong

It's interesting to see the Smart Radio-owned Zinc AM stations are more true rock stations than the Prime-owned Zinc FM stations. Part of the reason of this could be because the Smart-owned Zinc AM stations has no competition from the MacSC-owned 'localworks' stations (Mix FM in Sunshine Coast, Sea FM in Rockhampton, Mackay & Cairns, and 4TO in Townsville), in which the Prime-owned Zinc stations compete with.

I think it's fair to say that the Smart-owned Zinc AM stations are now probably the 2nd best rock stations in Australia after Rebel. :)

To tell you the truth, I was going to mention something about B-Rock in that post, in that it's the 3rd best rock station in Australia after Rebel & the Smart-owned Zinc stations. But that would mean going off-topic & being redirected to the "Random Radio" thread, which is probably a more appropriate thread for this kind of 'debate'.

Yes it is a awesome playlist  but its a shame that they take the Sunny Coast Zinc Fm feed from 10am to 3pm weekdays.

Keeping the UK flavour going, here's the last hour of Planet Rock, who are the close rivals of Absolute Classic Rock.

Bad Company-Bad Company
The Rolling Stones- Plundered My Soul
Iron Maiden- The Reincarnation Of Benjamin Breeg
Cinderella- Bad Seamstress Blues/Falling Apart At The Seams
Aerosmith- Mama Kin
The Doors- Love Her Madly
The Gaslight Anthem- The Diamond Street Church Choir
The Who- Won't Get Fooled Again
Extreme- Hole Hearted
Blind Faith- Can't Find My Way Home
Van Halen- Running With The Devil
Muse- Invincible
Queen- Brighton Rock
Ozzy Osbourne- Mr. Crowley

Apart from 'Hole Hearted', which is a bit of a WTF moment, that is one kick a** playlist. Why can't we have an equivalent here? This beats even Rebel hands down :P.

Here's a playlist from home: Sydney, to be precise. ;)

2CH 1170 - Sydney
"Greatest Memories"
Monday, 20th September 2010 - 6-7pm AEST

"Peace Train" Cat Stevens (1971)
"I Get Around" The Beach Boys (1964)
"Dancing Queen" ABBA (1976)
"My Cherie Amor" Stevie Wonder (1969)
"You're A Lady" Peter Skellern (1972)
"Little Green Bag" George Baker Selection (1970)
"Looking For An Echo" Ol 55 (1976)
"Marrakesh Express" Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young (1969)
"You Won't Find Another Fool Like Me" The New Seekers (1974)
"Smiley" Ronnie Burns (1969)

As you can see above, 2CH is modernising their playlist to attract more younger listeners. Judging by the last ratings survey, it attracted a lot of 55-64 listeners to the station, thanks to its more younger-friendly music format. :)

In the context of Macquarie Radio Network (2GB/2CH), their definition of younger listener is anyone over the age of 40 & under the age of 65. ;)

Nevertheless, it means that Sydney now has a station that plays the hits of the 60s & 70s, and not necessarily just the 'easy listening' hits. It will also attract a following on among the Central Coast & Illawarra listeners, in which their local commercial radio stations, don't really cater to the 'baby boomer' demographic that 2CH targets.

Taking a small liberty with the title of this thread,I'm posting up a 35 minute log that's just finished on 2GZ (& presumably the other stations in that Heritage network,or whatever it's called).

School Of Rock 7 from 1987.
8pm - 8.35pm tonight.2GZ (& others,obviously) tonight

Welcome To The World - Noiseworks
Living On A Prayer - Bon Jovi
Is This Love - Whitesnake
Nothing Too Serious - Icehouse
Love Bites - Def Leppard (oddly, from the very same album that includes "Rocket",which I felt was erroneously credited as being from 1989 the other week)
Good Times - Hood Gurus
Dude Looks Like A Lady - Aerosmith

Not a dud there,& only Bon Jovi gets over played. Those who claim all '80s music sux are really missing the point.

I'll be honest, that's the first time I've heard Welcome To The World since a 1994 road trip with the family down to a Christmas shindig in Bendigo, it was on a Best Of Noiseworks tape!
