I was just wondering if anyone could tell me what kind of figures the Australian version of Survivor got a few years ago - not the celeb one the other one on 9!

Australian Survivor made it into the top ten programs for the first time
with last night's final episode.
The Nine Network says the show, which has been outside the top ten since
it began, finished ninth for the night as more than 1.5 million viewers watched
former AFL player ROBERT DICKSON win $500,000.
The battle of the reality shows saw Australian Survivor lose out to Big Brother
Intruders - The Housemates' Revenge which was the evening's national number
one show.

Nine's big losers, again, were Shafted, with a 57th placing in hometown Melbourne's top 100 disguising the fact that in the rest of the country it came 87th, and Australian Survivor, which came 52nd in Melbourne with 310,000 viewers, 160,000 behind its biggest rival in the timeslot, Blue Heelers on Seven, and 120,000 in arrears of The Guardian on Ten.

NO SIGNATURE FOR ME, THANKS

The week just gone... 15 Years ago.

Week 31 1994 - July 24 - July 30

01. SIXTY MINUTES [9] 2053000
02. FUNNIEST HOME VIDEOS [9] 2032000
03. NATIONAL NINE NEWS - SATURDAY [9] 2011000
04. LOOKING GOOD [9] 1950000
05. SEVEN NIGHTLY NEWS - SATURDAY [9] 1941000
06. OUR HOUSE [9] 1908000
07. NATIONAL NINE NEWS - SUNDAY [9] 1941000
08. A CURRENT AFFAIR [9] 1882000
09. LOIS & CLARK [7] 1787000
10. NATIONAL NINE NEWS - WEEKNIGHTS [9] 1759000
11. GETAWAY [9] 1750000
12. SEVEN NIGHTLY NEWS - SUNDAY [7] 17450000
13. SALE OF THE CENTURY [9] 1730000
14. HOME IMPROVEMENT [7] 1725000
15. BURKES BACKYARD [9] 1700000
16. HANGIN WITH MR COOPER [7] 1673000
17. HEY HEY ITS SATURDAY [9] 1647000
18. HOME IMPROVEMENT [7] 1600000
19. MELROSE PLACE [10] 1586000
20. BLUE HEELERS [7] 1571000
... And just cause this is soooo 1994:
21. BAYWATCH [10] 1545000

5 City Share:
NINE: 31.3% (1: Syd, Mel, Bris, Ade - 2: Per)
SEVEN: 28.2% (1: Per - 2: Syd, Mel, Bris, Ade)
TEN: 22.7%
ABC: 14.3%
SBS: 3.5%

Nine KILLED it in 1994... and you can see why!

The most notable difference (and saddest for networks) here: The number of early evening viewers... For Nine: its News, ACA and Sale Of The Century - All Massive... And Seven not all that far behind on weekends and weeknights (23. SEVEN NIGHTLY NEWS - WEEKNIGHTS 1538000)... Even Ten was Averaging 1.2 Million for Neighbours!!! What would also be hugely different between now and then is the number of viewers in the hours just proceeding 6pm... in this week alone Wheel Of Fortune ranked at 50 with 1,171,000.

HAHA anyone think Melrose could round of the top 20 for ten again? I don't think so... Well we've seen crazier things happen (Masterchef anyone?). Didn't realise it was so big.

Was one of those years (I think from 1998-2000) where Ten was extremely locked onto 16-39 and got Sub-20% shares YTD wasn't it?

Thanks Matt!

Given the talk over the years about how much Nine News has fallen from grace I thought that it used to obliterate Seven News - but even though Nine was the leader - Seven was not far behind. Seven's winning by a bigger margin today than Nine was back then.

The Bill got 1.6 - gobsmacked.

I wonder how far FTA will continue to decline? What are everyone's theories? Will the FTA networks get to such a low point where the ratings won't justify broadcasting anymore or will FTA be able to survive in the long run?

Are those ratings for real? Wow!
Interesting to see how many viewers FTA has lost to Pay TV.

It's not just Pay TV. Remember we also have 5 extra FTA channels (One, ABC2, SBS2, GO, 7HD), and a greater penetration of different technologies such as FoxtelIQ, TIVO, DVR, broadband internet, which gives viewers a lot, lot more options than simply choosing what to watch from one of five FTA networks.

Well there were certainly times when Nines weekday news certainly did slaughter Seven, especially 1999. Where Seven really hurt was on the east coast... alot is made of the struggle in the Sydney and Melbourne markets at this time, but little of Brisbane and BTQ7 - which also struggled; in Week 32 2000 for instance 9 outrated 7 in that market 315,000 to 199,000! Its any wonder Kay McGrath kept her job and you can bet Seven were not at too much of a loss when Franky Warrick buggered off.

Those figures for Burke's Backyard are massive. I wonder how he footy rated with a 2 million lead in. Also, massive ratings for Friends. I'd love to see more Friends ratings. Was 2000 Millionare's first year?

No.

This is the CORRECT List for 1999:

1. FRIENDS (9) 2586000
2. JESSE (9) 2209000
3. WALKING WITH DINOSAURS (2) 2085000
4. SEACHANGE 2 (2) 2068000
5. THIS IS YOUR LIFE (9) 1980000
6. BLUE HEELERS (7) 1978000
7. NATIONAL NINE NEWS - SUNDAY (9) 1892000
8. BETTER HOME & GARDENS (7) 1839000
9. RPA (9) 1816000

I dont know WHO it is that tampers with the lists, but oviously this is a shoddy job, given that it completely ommits Aunty's two big shows that year... Seacgange the OBVIOUS ommision! Just stupid.

Oh cool thanks heaps for the info. I think all of the wikipedia ones pre-2005 are not to be trusted - why would they bother putting false information up there? And I was wondering where SeaChange got to so thanks :)

Was the top ten usually over 1.8 and top twenty usually over 1.6 in the 1990's?

Because some ratings weeks like this one below from earlier in the thread aren't actually that high or is this one just unusally low for 1990's numbers?

1995 - Week 11 - March 12-18
01. E.R (9) THU 1770000
10. A Current Affair (9) M-F 1535000
20. Hey Hey It's Saturday (9) SAT 1417000

Also, compared to the 3.5 million usually watching FTA 6pm to Midnight in the Metro areas on average in 2009 does anyone know any figures pre-2001 and especially the 90's for total FTA viewing figures?
