Education, Shellharbour and Kiama are her main reporting rounds, but sport is her big passion.
Growing up in the central west town of Orange, Derrick moved to the city in her final years to attend boarding school.
Studying at the University of Technology Sydney, Derrick spent her semesters completing her Bachelor of Journalism and International Studies degree, and her holidays travelling the South Pacific as Sports Manager on board P&O cruise ships.
Fluent in German, Derrick lived in Berlin in 2003 and 2004 completing an internship with the international news broadcaster Deutsche Welle TV and playing softball for Berlin in the German Bundesleague (National League).
Upon her return to Australia, Derrick swapped the bat for the oar and has been rowing surf boats ever since. A former Bondi A-crew rower she's now in the maroon and gold for local club Bulli.
