No announcement, but he's certainly giving Eddie Everywhere a run for his money with the amount of guest appearances he's currently making. Surely an announcement can't be too far off.

Ten have done a pretty good job promoting their Budget 2012 special. It's been plugged on The Project and Breakfast, and I caught a glimpse of a promo during a News at Five commercial break. While promoting special event bulletins is good, they really need to get a nonspecific promo out there which sells their news service in general.

How dare you suggest ten promote their news brand. They are morons they refuse to do anything to let people know their news service exists.

Using the Breakfast screen for the Budget coverage bulletin?

Not even using the Ten News theme or anything. I really don't get this network sometimes.

What happened at the start?, I missed it as it began early, before 10.15.

Interesting set up for bulletin - definitely looks like the Breakfast studio with the Couch and bench top removed. Would be a good template to bring back the Late News.

One thing that has always been amusing about Ten News is that no matter what the situation, the text on the super for a person is always in the regular, left alignment. This happens even if there are two people in the shot and the person being credited is not on the left.
Take this example:

Seven and Nine manage to align right in this circumstance.

Turning off the lights in the sofa area and shoving some tables in front does nothing to disguise the fact they are clearly using the Breakfast studio, what on earth compelled them to use it over their news studio or the atrium?

It is very subdued.

Preview of Breakfast tomorrow with a prerecorded clip from the hosts: Sandra saying hopefully they are fast asleep now.

I see the value in using the plasma wall, but it's been incredibly poorly executed. Surely it makes sense to stick as close the plasma wall as possible, what's the point of using a shot as wide as that when half of it is the lighting rig? Very sloppy.

Sandra saying hopefully they are fast asleep now.

Unlike the poor technical crew who'll be up rearranging the Breakfast studio after that completely pointless exercise.

Nothing wrong with using the breakfast set. Just looks like they are a 24/7 operation like when they had the national newsroom set. I like it.

Looks like a bit of a trial run for a late night program... hybrid of traditional news and viewer interaction, lots of live crosses like the project. Not sure about replacing the News theme with music though.

How exactly does using the Breakfast set make it look like they are a "24/7 operation" any more than their regular set or a special atrium setup would? What does "24/7 operation" even mean?

They couldn't even be bothered lining the white boxes on the left up next to each other, very slapdash.

That looks really cheap. Way too dark and very awkward looking. Good idea terrible execution.

Some elements of the presentation of the Ten News Special Bulletin for the 2012 budget.

While the set was terrible, The graphics were fantastic - impressive use of transitions and engaging ways of displaying social network feedback. The absence of Ten News branding was a mistake, but otherwise a solid effort.

I was also very impressed by the content and the structure of the bulletin, the numerous live crosses were informative but gave it a pacy and casual feel, while the prerecorded packages were brief and easily digestible. As mentioned above, it was quite similar to The Project.

How did it rate? Do we know if the ratings could give an indication on how a new late news would rate?

The Budget special pulled 466,000, a respectable figure for the 10.15pm start.

Well there you go. I know it had a lead in from Loser finale but honestly ten that's a decent rating to justify the late news being brought back.
