Owned by Fiji TV I believe, who seem unwilling to spend more than 20c on buying programmes to air. Before that it was PBL aka Nine until it was sold around 2006/07 IIRC, in order to keep Eddie's end-of-year bonus in seven figures.

Looking at their online TV Guide, EMTV hardly has any good content. I remember after Nine sold them, EMTV managed to get good shows like The Simpsons and 24 to fill the void of US shows which could no longer go to air.

Yes, even in their native Fiji their rivals seem to have better programming.

Back to topic, check out the Jingles story - there's some rare jingles there to take a gander at.

Just on the recent discussion about television in Papua New Guinea, I've started up a new thread. A link to it follows: PNG Television.

The late 80s weren't too kind to NBN - they had multiple owners, concern over who actually owned them, plus aggregation on the horizon (they were the biggest losers in the whole thing, they were going to be aggregated with CWN6 and MTN9 before they got switched to competing against NRN/RTN and NEN/ECN).

Wow, do you mean that the Central West, Hunter and Murrumbidgee regions were going to be merged into 1 TV market ?

Or was CWN, NBN, MTN being merged into one network under a common banner such as Prime (as it happened with NEN/ECN, CBN/CWN and RVN/AMV)?

Merged into one TV market. The regions we know now were different in the initial stages of aggregation/equalisation planning.

The original plans were for six or seven markets - north/central Queensland, central/southern Queensland, northern/central and central/southern NSW, east and west Victoria, which may or may not have included Tasmania.

I don't quite know how they got that combo of stations, but somehow the powers that be worked out that the Central West, MIA and Newcastle were right for a combination. Southern NSW would've been WIN, RVN/AMV and CTC. Southern QLD/Northern NSW would've been NRN/RTN, NEN/ECN and DDQ/SDQ.

Another 50 Years story....this time looking at NBN's first sports presenter, Noel Harrison. I'm surprised he's still alive, the video I've seen he looked quite old back then!

hilarious, impressive and innovative, especially for a country television station! I know NBN also produced "Travelin' Out West" a country music show hosted by a young John Williamson in the early to mid seventies, it was syndicated to several other regional stations in Australia.

Speaking of....

It was a Australian Television Facilities (ATF)/Reg Grundy production filmed at NBN-3. ATF was a consortium of regional stations that purchased and produced programs.

Feature length doco on the station, perhaps?

Another NBN-produced show for ATF was CountrySide, a rural news programme similar to Landline today, it aired around 1974 on NBN and several other regional stations in Australia, I know GMV6 Shepparton aired it on Sunday mornings before "World of Sport". Its theme song sounded like this:

Surely NBN don't have technology that will replace the word Nine in the EPG with NBN? If so, maybe WIN should invest in it! :P

In all seriousness, I think the Nine News bulletins are called NBN News bulletins (eg: NBN's Afternoon News) in the NBN EPG, at least they were last time I was in NBN-land.

I wonder if it was called 'The Whole National Yards' in WIN land? :P

Yes, that's right...

Another odd thing about NBN's attitude to the news branding, is that during the 4.30pm news, they do little to cover up the evidence of Nine News branding (except a small NBN News watermark in the bottom left hand corner).

But at 6pm they go to the opposite extreme with humungous "First On NBN News" cover ups and inserted pre-recorded reporter sign offs (eg. Peter Harvey, NBN News) despite the presence of Channel Nine branded microphones during the reports.

But then the cover ups and inserted sign-offs are not done on all Nine News sourced reports, only some of them... weird.

They obviously try to maintain the NBN branding since it is their bulletin (at 6pm) but aren't fussed about the Nine-sourced afternoon ones. What exactly could they do about the Nine mics anyway. Do you want crews to keep Nine and NBN mics and then file two full versions (one with each mic)? It's easier for the reporter to just quickly redo the end for NBN (where reasonably possible) and get on with their next task.

I guess my point is that it's obvious to everyone that the majority of NBN's news content is sourced from Nine, mics and ingrained 'Nine News' references eg." Nine News can reveal..." are other obvious giveaways, so why bother going to all of the trouble to 'cover up' the "First On Nine" bugs and replace the sign-offs?

And then they only do it sometimes..

It's still a pointless exercise really.

From the TV History thread and posted here because it's more relevant:

Same with NBN. They used to go to at least the 11pm program.

From what I've seen, NBN had (and still has) a weird obsession (one of several relating to On-Air Presentation, although I won't go there now) of including NBN News (and ACA on Weeknights) in the nightly lineups before and including the lineup that airs right before NBN News at 6pm. The lineups which air during NBN News up until and including 7.30pm on Weeknights/6.30pm on Weekends have pretty much the same listings as normal though.
