Nine will be launching a new digital channel

Source: Nine's new channel

I wouldn't be surprised if they launched it during the Olympics like Ten are doing with the commonwealth games.

9HD will looks so terrible with another SD channel, they may aswell go with 576p.

Nine must care about it, otherwise they wouldn't have the Olympic rings as a watermark.

They have to have those there as part of the contract with the IOC I believe.

So from what I've gathered it will be a catch up service where it will show episodes of shows weeks later. I guess that's all nine could do considering their lack of content

I don't know if Nine signed up a $500m contract with Warners for a "lack" of content.

Can you find new content to put on another channel? There seems to definatly be a lack of content from nine's sake when they are showing constant repeats on their main channel not just their second channel. With that said they are not the only ones that would find it difficult to fill three channels - seven and ten both would find it hard to fill a third channel with some new content.

Your complaining about more choices on TV? Your not serious are you?

Who said it had to be 'new' content? I think the figures for GO and 7TWO indicate that it's not just new content that is pulling in decent figures.

And $500 million should surely buy a decent catalogue.

I'm not doubting the fact that nine have a lot of shows they can repeat but I was just mentioning it would be hard to launch a new channel with new content considering nine have a lack of it. Not saying they don't have repeats of shows but not a lot of new content is available.

They could have a movie channel ... have different themes every night. Then have 1 or 2 new movies every few days.

and seven's could be a lifestyle channel.

I think 9 should do like channel 4 did in the UK with More4 and E4 and do a second general entertainment channel but older skewing so shows like Without a Trace and ER could go there as well as the 40 year old comidies like Hogan's Heroes Get Smart etc and older skewing Movies. Then use Go for 90's sitcoms (Just Shoot Me, Nanny, Seinfeld) and current programs and movies aimed at younger audience sort of really what they are doing now just minus the really old shows which can go on the new channel.

The catch up service is for the internet, not the third channel. It will be like iview.

I like the idea of a movie channel. Movies could then be repeated the next day.

Surely it would make Nine unwatchable with the low quality that would be needed to carry an additional SD channel? I could see them doing stuff on 9HD but otherwise...

I don't get why the networks are so into multichannels now, yeah they can compete for a ever decreasing FTA pie but its just diluting their main channel.

I agree. Unless we are getting a quality picture and quality programming, why make another channel?

Their 3rd channel would be their HD channel. Not an additional SD channel. (Or make their HD channel the main channel and use 9sd as the third) All they are allowed is 1XHD and 2XSD
