Good point. So the viewership on Foxtel for this channel will be even lower than the microscopic ratings that ABC News Breakfast currently gets.

I'm not sure what % of Foxtel subscribers subscribe to the HD package?

Either way - ABC News 24 will be in more homes than Sky News on day one. A considerable advantage.

PM to give press conference at 1025 - Parliament House - looks like there is game afoot! NEWS 24 will miss the polls announcement.

The PM doesn't usually announce an election, they usually just head straight over to the GG to dissolve parliament.

Not a lot I don't think, it costs something like $120/month.

I can see how it would be in Foxtel's interests not to carry it as an SD channel, too.

You were right Danny - I was kinda hoping we'd see the whole thing spring to life. Alas Uniform rebates. More electioneering before it is called.
No more update on news 24?

From memory, doesn't the PM go to the GG's residence, and then go to Kirribilli House to announce the election?

Tony Jones and Ali Moore will host the first hour of News 24

And this will be when?

Obviously in a pm timeslot.

Is anybody else interested about this?

Any chance it could start in the evening tomorrow, in line with the tip-off to the Spy Report? Here's hoping...

On another note, Ros Childs isn't hosting the Midday Report today and I don't think she was on the other day I watched either... could she also be piloting the Midday Report from the new studio, assuming that's where it is going to be broadcast from?

She hasn't been on for the past week. It's also strange that Kerry O'brien is on leave at this time which leads me to believe the channel won't come to air until he returns...

Has he been on leave all week? I noticed he was absent last night, but he did an interview so he might have been away on assignment.

How far in advance did the ABC announce ABC3, out of interest? Surely it was more than ten days! I ask because I find it unlikely that the ABC would give such short notice.

They probably did give more notice for ABC3, I'm not sure, but the situation is a bit different with a 24-hour live channel being launched. The ABC have been heavily promoting ABC News 24 on ABC1 so the launch may still be imminent, in my opinion. Maybe there are just a few more issues needing to be sorted out at MediaHub, after which the channel can be launched immediately.

It was serveral months till launch when ABC3 was announced, I remember attending the media launch for ABC3 at the Elsternwick studios at the start of November (2009), then I flew up to Sydney for the official launch on December 3. So don't expect such a fancy launch for ABC News 24.

I think the relaunch of ABC News back in 2005 was only mentioned in the bulletin the night before, although a new channel is somewhat bigger.

Can't wait!
The sliding elements look fantastic.
Although it's interesting that they're only using half of the ABC News 24 Logo.
