What a shocking night for Nine. Without the GO! share that would have to be one of their worst shares for a long, long time.

Amazing that Ten by itself beat Nine + Go!, and ABC1 by itself equaled Nine + Go!. Terrible night for Nine.

Farout if I were Ten I'd be less than impressed with One, sure its a good long term project, but look at that, because of ABC2's good performance it helped the ABC pick up from third to second and One's measly one percent didn't get Ten anywhere

ONE has to go - it's a dismal failure.

Yes, and Nine News in particular, down 150K from last Saturday and almost below the 800K mark, terrible.

This just shows, you can play a good movie and it will rate. Cool Runnings may have been on 100 times already, but it still draws viewers

Indeed it is, Ten could do a lot better with an alternative.

What makes you say that or are you solely basing that 'dismal failure' tag on its nightly ratings share?

Ten are due to launch a new SD channel late this year.

Of course ONE is going to struggle to rate at the moment, most of the sport they show live hasn't started. In the next few weeks they'll get their live sports like AFL,Moto GP,F1,Nascar,IPL.....etc back on so ratings should improve.

I think they are soley basing it on its nightly shares, when its pretty much the only digital channel that can't significantly lift its main channel conterpart's shares

Is that a disadvantage? Sure! However it is not the only variable of measuring ONE's success.

ONE will pay dividends in years to come. Ten was very shrewd to grab a LIVE event genre to build a channel around. With less people watching LIVE free to air television TEN will be able to charge advertisers a premium rate to expose their products to a captive audience watching LIVE programming. The Australian Open debacle demonstrates that people are reluctant to watch their sport on delay. There is huge demand for LIVE sport coverage in this country. The channel needs time to establish itself and acquire rights to sport people want to watch.

They simulcast all AFL games on Ten and ONE, so why do they need a dedicated channel? All the AFL ratings are attributed to Ten anyway

over time there could be other major sports bought up by Ten/One, not just AFL, and once 2013 comes around, there will be no need to simulcast between Ten and One. So for some short term inconvenience now they could get dividends later in the long term.

Can't believe how bad Nine performed last night! Thank goodness they have GO! to make it look a little more respectable.

Unfortunately, advertisers don't look at the combination of both channels, they are looking at how the main channel is going. While it's obvious that Go! is the highest rated digital channel, the big question is...is it taking away from the main channel? When the shares for Nine & Go! are added together they make a respectable share, but if you look at Nine alone the news isn't as good. The high shares for Go! will only be worth it if the Nine Network can sell advertising time to make up for the obvious losses for their main channel. Same goes for all networks and their digital channels. If a network can manage to maintain the shares they were getting last year for their main channel and their digital channel is giving them extra viewers, then that's a great result for them. The idea is to get the extra channel to take audience away from other networks...not your own.

Big defeat for Nine News in Sydney. So much for the argument that viewers were turning off Mark Ferguson.
