Seven Local News Mackay Cyclone Coverage [Thanks to MackayTV]

Are they actually live crosses or pre-recorded, does Seven Local News have OB facilities?

There are no live link facilities for 7 QLD. Seven Brisbane can supply if really needed. Seven Mackay's News is prerecorded anyhow. Sunshine Coast gets its bulletin live.

I'm surprised they dont have Jo Desmond on the Mackay news. Doe she only front Cairns and Townsville?

Yes, you would think they would, since WIN News is co-anchored in Mackay. Isn't she only on Cairns and Townsville because she was originally from the NQ based TEN Local News?

Still, seeing as she is there, why not get her to co-anchor all bulletins? Does she fill in while Rob is away?

And also if Seven Queensland do start up bulletins for Rockhampton/Towooomba she could present them solo, as I am sure that Rob does enough.

They wouldn't be able to do Rockhampton/Toowoomba out of Maroochydore as they already do 5 from there, another studio would be needed.

There are provisions to be able to present out of BTQ also as they have a spare studio. Considering they are the same owner, I'm sure this would have been brought up before with Seven management.

Doubt they would bother. They are legally obliged to produce a minimum 5 bulletins - what they are currently producing. There appears to be very little resource sharing between 7 Brisbane and 7 Qld, they often cover the same stories, but 7 Brisbane will dispatch their own reporters to cover, rather than sharing the one resource on location. I don't think you'll ever see the Brisbane set used for regional Qld.

7 Local News isnt even using the current graphics package... They could at least get Brisbane to run off some animated weather graphics for them...

I wasn't suggetsing they us ethe & Bris set, just another studio 7 set next door.

Fully aware they are not obliged to do more bulletins, but as they are a apart of the 7 Network and competing with WIN (who cover local news in markets, you cannot tell me they haven't been thinking about it.

7 Bris will send local reporters(or at least re-hash them) as apposed to the local news reporters as they don't want the two reports clashing, rather taking a different angle.

Yeah it would be good, it's interesting, you'll notice in the video above that we get the new graphics before the weather for the Sponsor Board.

Yeah i also doubt they would bother, but I do know they have a studio set up here in Mackay that get's no use. It used to be used back before aggregation for MVQ6 News.

Yes as Rockvegas said she does fill in while Rob is away but it would be good if they had both her and Rob Brough presenting the news bulletin. She presents the primetime news updates solo every weekday night, I'll try to get a cap of one next week and put it up here.

Hopefully they've disposed of their 1989 set. I understand their Mackay studio never had autocues either.

Thanks TV King that's gold!

I think SEQ 8 had exactly the same set at that time. They were affiliated with TV0 at the time I think. Interesting in that clip that they put St Patricks Day on the screen - isn't it the 17th March, not the 16th!

Elsewhere there are posts lamenting the decommissioning of the second studio at BTQ. So what is correct? Gotta take the internet with a grain of salt.

The second studio at BTQ is definately decommissioned. Seven retrenched all their production staff a few years ago. The studio was home to programs like 'Saturday Disney', 'Agro's Cartoon Connection' and 'Family Fued' (the Rob Brough version). Programs like 'Creek to Coast' and 'The Great South East' are produced from an office at Seven, but are TPC: The Production Company employees (the production company that produces those shows) not Seven employees.

It is true, that there may be still be a large empty space just waiting to be used for something.

SEQ8 and MVQ6 were partnered to TVQ0 as Christopher Skase owned those channels. But he sold off TVQ in 1987 when he bought the Seven Network and so MVQ/SEQ changed their affiliation to Seven.

I'm not sure of the current set up at BTQ. I can tell you that the last time I visited (in 1991) there were 3 studios in use, in a golden time for local TV production. The largest being Studio 1 which of course most national programmes were produced from and had capacity for a live studio audience. This to my knowledge hasn't been used since the network decided to move all children's production to Sydney. A new kindergarten programme was announced in more recent times to be produced at BTQ. I've heard nothing since.

The second studio had a local "Sportsworld" set in the early nineties. It was quite small. Next to that, the news studio built in I think in 86 or 87. It also had a couple of smaller sets used when national programmes were broadcast from Brisbane.

I had forgotten about the MVQ studio in Mackay, not used for local news since 1990. I believe it gets used for local commercials where a studio is needed. I doubt very much it will have the relevant facilities to produce a news bulletin in today's terms, but i could be wrong there.
