Check out this link from the Sydney Morning Herald:
http://newsstore.fai...70407_0089_9183

It reads: The ratings figures for the first survey period of 1987 in detail, are: 2GB 13.9 (last survey 14.5), 2CH 11.4 (9.4), 2DAY 11.0 (11.3), 2MMM 11.0 (12.8), 2WS 9.2 (8.8), 2KY 8.5 (7.5), 2UW 7.7 (7.7), 2SM 6.2 (5.8), 2BL 5.1 (2.9), 2UE 4.7 (6.7), 2JJJ 2.9 (4.4), and 2FC 1.5 (1.3).

To think that in 1987 (the last year 2SM was a Top 40 station) it rated higher than Triple M, Classic Rock and Mix1065 do today!!!

2SM has actually got quite an interesting line up over the weekend (which I'm sure much of Sydney is unaware about).

Saturdays:
Hi-Tide Fishing Show (4am - 7am)
Poppy Savakis (7am - Midday)
Off The Bench (Midday - 1pm)
Talkin' Sport (1pm - 5pm)
AFL Today (5pm - 6pm)
Carter Edwards (6pm - Midnight)

Sundays:
Hi-Tide Fishing Show (4am - 7am)
Swinging In The Sticks (7am - 8am)
Richard King (8am - Midday)
Poppy Savakis (Midday - 6pm)
Carter Edwards (6pm - Midnight)

Not much information about the programs in bold is available on their website, nor are any ads played on the station at the moment. But it's good to see different genre shows than what you would find on other AM stations.

Also interesting to see their website now has a link to Zoo Super Digi where before it used to have a link to Gorilla. I'm sure it's better this way as most 2SM listeners would prefer Zoo's soft rock format.

AFL Today is a regional AFL program, that I believe is produced and broadcast from Ballarat and then sent out right around Australia. It's much like the Triple M feed, but seperate and relates more to regional Australia. Swinging The Sticks is a one hour golf show. And Off The Bench is a program that focuses on Rugby news of the week, not much difference then 'Talkin' Sport' really.

2SM should've gone down the path of SEN - maybe become SEN Sydney? Bill should cut his losses and just lease out the frequency to SEN - maybe get rights to syndicate SEN programming to his regional network?

I think SEN might be reluctant to revisit an interstate connection after the dismal outcome when they syndicated SEN to Adelaide :P Also SEN is very AFL-focused which would die a death in Sydney

Maybe with a Sydney station they'd have more defined national segments with localised shows? There's a fair few sports that don't get coverage on commercial radio (A-League football and rugby union for one).

If SEN wasn't talk of AFL 23 hours of the day, I'd agree with you. But the format is only really relevant to Melbourne as it is.

Having said that, if Billy had his own presenters run a 24-7 sports station, with an NRL focus but incorporating other sports, and actually promoted it, it could be a reasonable success. Almost as good as 2UE is now :stirthepot:

Well done 2SM. They've got what sounds like a live interview with the NSW Premier Kristina Keneally on Talk Tonight as I type this (10:16pm).

That desperation from the NSW ALP has more stench than a women's sanitary bin that's overdue for emptying. Caralis and co have sold them the pup line about being the largest regional network in NSW and KK has jumped on it. Must've been riveting radio with the old woman who does nights as the interviewer.

A cabbage leaf would've provided a more hard hitting i/v than that.

On Sunday I had lunch at Sails in Milsons Point (great food!!).

As I walked down Blues Point Road I had a look into number 186 - the home of the once mighty 2SM. I remembered in the early 1980s when I would cross the Harbour Bridge I would always look at 2SMs home as a sacred site.

How sad was I on Sunday when I looked up to where the neon 2SM sign use to proudly sit and all that remains there now are some quite old pieces of cream coloured wooden panels. Tragic.

What does make me laugh though is on the Fairfax Digital News Store I found one of the last ratings for 2SM when it was a contemporary hit station in 1987:

http://newsstore.fai...70407_0089_9183

On the 7th April 1987 2SM rated 6.2%. I laughed as in the latest radio ratings Nova is at 6.1%.

Perhaps it's time for Nova to move to a country music format? KICK FM anyone? How about Lite'n'Easy 969?

From Radioinfo

Those close to John Laws report that the radio legend is not taking retirement all that well and is desperate to return to his natural habitat, the padded walls of a radio studio. In all likelihood, that studio will be at 2SM.

Sources say that Laws has lunched with Supernetwork owner, Bill Caralis, on two or three occasions over the past six months and that a deal has been struck for golden tonsils’ return on the 39 station network that covers much of NSW and southern QLD.

Do my ears hear correctly when a promo on 2SM said they were broadcasting the 2010 AFL Grand Final tomorrow from 1pm?

Something called "AFL Live". Main commentator appears to be Sandy Roberts.

Ah, it's croc media's coverage. They broadcast to regional stations like 3ba/2ec/3GS etc. I think in the southern states Southern cross localworks stations take the feed too, (could be wrong though

What I don't understand is isn't there some kind of broadcasting rights for this kind of coverage? Fair enough about the weekly AFL show, but to broadcast the AFL Grand Final into Sydney where 2MMM and the ABC already have it covered (and not sure if 2UE took 3AW's feed or not).
