Personally, I think 1116SEN should use the 'entertainment' part of their name and play non-stop music during the mid-dawns slot (similar to either Triple M or Rebel FM). It'll save on programming and let's face it, surely I'm not the only person who wants those 10 second snippets of music to go for just a little longer...

A sports station with some blokey music - now there's a concept. 3MMM is trying, but there's not enough sport.

Just had a listen and indeed All Night Sport is still on air. Brett Phillips is on this morning (and totally butchered Alexander Hleb's name! silly.gif )

I think Peter is leaving, don't know if its temporary or not.

SEN's overnights have been very good, when they're not replaying the day programs. Tony Schibeci had a great show, but has gone to the daytime slot now. Brett Phillips does a good job, and on the weekends, One Week At A Time runs on a saturday night. Anybody interested, listen for a call from 'Billy from (West) Heidelberg', he's a character. biggrin.gif

And I think music wouldn't really work on SEN. They promote themselves as a '24-7 Sport station', and should remain that. I miss when they used to have the EPL live games overnight on Saturdays. That's what I call 24-7 sport. AFL in the day/evening, and soccer overnight - brilliant!

SEN still do overnights during the weekdays. It is now managed by Craig Hutchinson. It was the best with Tony S. He had all the good people on with him it isn't as good now.
Brett Phillips is good though.

1116SEN have launched a new sports website. It's called SportSENtral.com.au and it's got the latest scores, sporting news & more. It also has an updated "listen live" feature as well as something called "SEN TV".

Mind you, if it was up to me I would have simply rebuilt the current SEN.com.au and integrated these new features. Something like 2KY and Sport927's current website.

Visit the site at http://www.sportsentral.com.au

Why do they call SEN 1116 a network if it only has one station.?

someone in marketing probably decided that "network" sounds better biggrin.gif

but really I've no idea, but perhaps they had ambitions of 1116 being the first in a network of stations as they later took over the running of 5DN in Adelaide (IIRC they leased the station from ARN) and turned that into SEN 1323. The setup didn't work, largely because it was all Melbourne-based programming heard across both cities, and so they handed 5DN back to ARN who have since turned it into Cruise 1323

Also, it may be why they made a slight change to their logo and no longer mention Sports Entertainment Network, rather it is now 1116SEN (kind of like 3AW, 3MP, etc.).

I know, but I'm referring to their previous logo which did in fact say "Sports Entertainment Network" on it.

from smh.com.au

Macquarie Radio Network Ltd - the owner of Sydney radio stations 2GB and 2CH - looks set to enter the Melbourne market after signing a heads of agreement with Pacific Star Network Ltd.

"Macquarie Radio Network Limited and Pacific Star Network Limited today concluded a heads of agreement that contemplates the formation of a joint venture for the production and supply of radio programming in the Melbourne market," the companies said in a joint statement on Wednesday.

"The heads of agreement is subject to satisfaction of customary conditions, including due diligence, the grant of any required regulatory approvals, and board approvals."

Pacific Star Network owns Melbourne radio stations including all-sport station SEN1116 and music station 3MP.

Shares in Pacific Star Network last traded at 4.5 cents and Macquarie Radio at 72 cents.

So what does this mean for SEN? and does this mean 3MP will go head to head with 3AW?

And does it raise a possibility of Steve Price moving to 3MP as a result?

I would be more than happy for a radio player to upset the Fairfax radio juggernaut, but if all that results is networked radio being pumped into Melbourne I can't see it having much success.....

The arrogance and pomposity of 3AW is incredible......
