it works very easily. At this point in time Mitchell has not signed a contract with Fairfax (AW) so he may very well sign with Macquarie/Pacific and move across to 1377 to do Mornings.

yeah but does Pacific Star (formerly known as DCL) want to run 3MP in the ground the same way they ran 3AK into the ground as Talk 1116 with a program lineup that changed almost as frequently as Melbourne's weather? I can't really see Mitchell dumping 3AW after 20 years to go to start a new talk station from scratch but that's just me. People like Alan Jones or John Laws might have had the power to take their listeners with them when they jump stations, but history shows that when names move from 3AW to a different station, the audience does not follow. e.g. John Blackman, Bruce Mansfield, Derryn Hinch... (and will be interesting to see if Rex can swing some listeners to MMM?) Melbourne's talk listeners are too glued onto 774 or 3AW to bother with anyone else.it works very easily. At this point in time Mitchell has not signed a contract with Fairfax (AW) so he may very well sign with Macquarie/Pacific and move across to 1377 to do Mornings.
Also, 1377 has severe deficencies in reception across Melbourne. 3MP is transmitting from Rowville which makes the station less than listenable across the north and western suburbs where it even gets drowned out by 3XY on 1422. Would Mitchell move away from the masses of coverage from 693 (and regional stations) to 3MP?

However with a strong presenter lineup they might stand a chance, but they need to pick which station to lose, SEN's strong niche of MP's totally different format. There also is the issue of the frequencies not being quite as good coverage wise as AW, which would suggest using 1116.

Said programmer also cheekily (I hope) suggested that 2UE might be desperate enough to pinch Graeme Gilbert from 2SM's "Talk Tonight" - SCARY!!!!!

And no need to worry about Mitchell not moving. If you said the same thing about Jones, Hadley and 2UE 10 years ago, people would think your stupid.

I can't see SEN moving to digital-only not in the short term anyway. Would be too expensive to maintain for only a handful of tuners that are out there.you'll likely find SEN will go to 1377 or Digital only (scary) and 3MP will move to 1116 (and maybe a musical offshoot will stay at 1377 if SEN goes to digital only).

MRN chairman Russell Tate said one of the main factors in the timing of the company's decision to launch was the availability and subsequent signing of 2UE morning presenter Steve Price. Mr Price will fill one of the prime on-air shifts and will also oversee programming of the new station.

I thought 3MP was not as strong as SEN's signal? Or is it the other way round?
Edit: Hold on it says new call signal? Does that mean its swapping with SEN?

SEN going to 1377 actually pleases me - the signal travels very nicely across the bay into Geelong, 1116 suffers a lot of interference there, especially at night when 4BC comes in and mucks things up.

A not-the-slightest-bit-subtle plug.
I wonder how long Singo will pour money into Melbourne before he realizes the market there is sown up by AW & The ABC?
After a decade in Sydney, does Steve Price have much name value there anymore? Plus,if it wasn't for Alan Jones,2GB probably would have stalled at the gates-again.

Good Call, Bad Call... BAD CALL.
1) 3MP does NOT have the football broadcast rights - A talk station without a football call in Melbourne is a dead station walking.
2) This gives Magic 1278 a LOCK on the Golden Oldies/Easy Listening market.
Those in the Fairfax sales department are most likely laughing their heads off now, as they have the number 1 talk station (with a footy call) in Melbourne - 3AW... AND now will have the only Golden Oldies/Easy Listening station in town.
This move does not make any sense!
CrowdedHouse (going WTF?)
