Dave Gleeson's Rock of Ages starts midday on KO from Tuesday. Dave's thrilled to be back in his hometown on his favourite radio station. KO will be taking the LocalWorks version.

they take the Local Works version simply because it removes the references to "Triple M" in the talk breaks - the music selection will be done by KOFM. It will still sound like KO.

I know the show at night is the same on Localworks and MMM, but is the midday show the same? And is it really live or is it all done over a couple of days and voicetracked for the week?

NewFM have changed their slogan to, "80's in the morning and Newcastle's hottest songs in the afternoon".

hey Peter, it's been like that for a while now. The multiple personality syndrome they have - 80s Mornings, Hot Songs Arvos, Love Songs at Night.

Sooner or later (more than likely much much much later) the penny will drop - they should be Newcastle's Best Rock.

You'd think having a slogan like that would make someone twig to the fact that if your format takes that many words to describe, you need a new format not a new slogan.

The solution:

Something simple. Easy to remember. And makes an impact.

Said best below...

Newcastle's Best Rock.

yep, a little OT here, but positioners are becoming weird. You have "Widest Variety of Music" which sounds fine, 5MMM and now 2GO do "Variety Like You've Never Heard Before" which just sounds weird. Are they saying "Widest Variety of Music" was just crap, and THIS is more variety? Perhaps "Unbelievable Variety" would be better there. I dunno.

I was having a few drinks with some old radio mates a month ago. We were talking about NewFM and how they need to get back to what they did best. Sooner or later the penny has to drop for NewFM, they'll have to look at what Triple M has done, by going back to its heritage, and they'll have to reclaim the 25-44 male rock back from KO and try and push KO a little older. They'll need programming smarts, a crap load of promotional money and patience. At the moment, they sound ok. But its multiple personality disorder and its not really working. April 20 is the next survey, if they're around the 6-7 again, you'd have to think they'd do something.

How much stuff gets networked out of Newcastle for the rest of the Super Network FM stations? Would the need to have network suitable programming on New keep them with a terrible format just to keep the feed going? Otherwise why not just go with 80s all day for now even if it isn't rock.

100% of the FM Network comes out of Newcastle.
New FM is local out of studio B between 9am - 5:30am, New FM Breakfast is local but done out of studio A. Studio A is sent out to the FM network 24/7, FM network stations can take the Newcastle network feed & New FM breakfast or run local. New FM programming is totally separate to the Super Radio FM Network.

Isn't NewFM part of Caralis? Cause we all know 'Spending money' isn't part of his vocabulary!

There has been no advancement in the ratings of New FM since 2007...up slightly and then straight back down again. Nearly four and a half years and haven't once reached double figures with an FM licence in Newcastle. Disgraceful. Don't expect much change again if the history is anything to go by. New FM sadly has been a non event in the radio landscape for many many years now.

From "Newcastle #1, 2012" ratings thread:

2NUR's new slogan is "The home of Newcastle Commercial Radio's Has-Beens" :D

Todd Seargent, Dave Cochrane, Pete Davis and now the old 2KaaaaaaaaayOoooooh PD Kev "Analog" Kellaway who is on Drive.

All good blokes, all bloody good jocks, all have excellent music knowledge and all make NUR a pleasure to listen to.

I agree. I was up in Newcastle on Monday afternoon, and did listen to 2NUR the most whilst up there. Another new slogan for the station that I came up with (and is quite truthful too, judging by the high 'Other Stations' ratings in the 55-64s) is "Newcastle & the Hunter's #1 station for baby-boomers". :)

With 2CH in Sydney going old with its music playlist again (see "Macquarie Radio Network" thread), 2NUR is more modern by comparison, partly because of the fact that it's on the FM band. ;)

Noticed that, one thing they're after is, you need to be familiar with the Gold format. Yes they play some "Gold" music, but I wouldn't say it was a Gold station by any stretch of the imagination.
