if your referring to 'Got talent as the current singing show on seven, techically it isnt exclusively a singing show, and it takes two hasnt been on for years.

'Got Talent and x factor both sit on ITV in the UK and both do very well.

lets face it, if ever there was an "it" show, this is the one, its huge in the UK and across Europe and it launches in the US next year, seven or nine would have been nuts not to give it another go.

Im sure seven and fremantle have learnt from the mistakes of the 2005 version.

I actually think the reason why this works so well in the UK is that they spend a fortune on it, it more than just a singing show, the staging of it is mammoth and spectacular.

While seven is unlikely to replicate that, I hope they at least spend more on it than Ten did the last few seasons of Idol

I have my money on James Tobin to get the younger crowd in.

Luke Jacobz? Remember he did Popstars Live. He was quite good but fairly unknown at that time. Now he is extremely popular.

mmm, i remember Luke Jacobz being a bit of a car smash in that role..or maybe it was the show that was the car smash

it was widely thought about x-factor in 05 that daniel mcpherson was the only good thing about it, despite him being a seven personality, its difficult to see that happening though

I think it was the show that was the car crash..remember the controversy with the judges..christine anu and jpy pulled out / sacked and we were left with only molly i think...
Thats it..molly to host X Factor..with subtitles..just joking folks!

i do remember that, the panel wasnt being controversial (or nasty) enought for sevens liking so they were replaced mid way through the series.

Why did Ten's version fail, just out of curiosity?

Why did Ten's version fail, just out of curiosity?

idol had just finished season 2 at the time, which was its most popular season, ten admitted after the fact they only bought the rights to x-factor has a defensive move to protect idol, basically they didnt want nine or seven getting hold of x-factor and spoiling idol, they didnt invest much in it at all and it looked cheap and nasty. X factor debuted in Feb 05, Idol had only just finished for the year in late november, as a result x-factor just looked like a blatant idol rip off.

Kate Ceberano was a judge and was a disaster, Mark Holden was also a judge, which made it look even more like an Idol rip off, the third judge was a scottish guy who nobody had ever heard of before, his only claim to fame appeared to be that he was Elton John's ex. (I thnk his surname was Reid but I dont remember his first name)

The group that went on to win our x-factor were called "random" and they met while queueing up to each individually audition for X-factor and decided to audition as a group and won

All that sad, Daniel McPherson was an excellent host.

Very impressive lineup of judges. If it can have the same production values as Australia's Got Talent, then it should do well. This show will probably spell the end of Idol for good in this country, as it has in the UK.

With auditions starting in two weeks, I wouldn't be surprised if this were on air by mid year.

There is hope for Catherine Deveney!

After the child rape fiasco - Kyle Sandilands has kept his radio job AND has secured two TV shows - AGT and now X factor!

Good to see SEVEN has given this disgusting horrible mongrel a second chance!

I don't watch AGT - and will definitely NOT be watching X factor!

Dan is doing Beat the Star too so I can't see him doing this too. Tim Campbell? He is free of TV duties now isn't he? Although he is doing some stage work. James Kerley would be a good choice too. Not Grant though please!
