Confirmed: JAMES TOBIN as host

Horrible choice. What is your source?

I doubt it would be James Tobin, they couldn't be that silly. That would kill it off before it starts. Although, look at Australia's Got Talent, ironically its host has none of it, but the show still rates.

Tobin was terrible on Sunrise this morning - refering to Melbourne's West Gate Bridge, instead of Brisbane's Gateway bridge, where he actually was broadcasting from - and his interviewing of the Premier was amateur.

He's not ready for primetime.

his interview with Anna Bligh was bad, ive never actually heard an inteviewer call a Premier by his / her first name before..and his referring to the west gate bridge was down right sloppy and should have been corrected.

hosting big shows like idol, x factor etc is harder than it looks, particularly with large audiences, i often think James looks ill at ease on "Go Go Stop" (well, ive only seen it like 3 times) so god knows how he'd go with x-factor.

I would have to agree to that. If there is going to be a downfall at the moment it would be him as host. I pray its not right i really do.

Eh, unproven talent but could work. I would have still went with Kerley or Darren (despite how I dislike him). I like Tobin but not sure how he'd go in a big event show.

Just a reminder that there's no firm source on this yet, and no word from network publicity.

Those guys seem alittle more appropriate and atleast better versed in that sort of hosting gig.

I said James as soon as it was announced on Fri. I think should do well- he will at least bring in the demos (if the rumour is true that is!). I will wait to judge him until the show premiers. I quite enjoy him on Sunrise (although I admit this morning was a bit of a shocker). Give him a few lessons in the next few months and he'll be fine. Would have preferred Darren but.

Will they just be ignoring the 2005 season all together, start off fresh and claim that theirs is a complete first. Sounds really tacky and unplanned (well, it was definitely unplanned). I certainly won't be tuning in.

Why is it just because something is kept a relatively good secret- it automatically becomes something unplanned and rushed. If new reports are true negotiations have been going for months and that judging panel would be hard to lock down (especially Ronan who is essentially relocating for 5 months to a new country).

On the Australian first front- I know Fremantle has publicly acknowledged the 2005 series. Nothing from Seven- nor would I expect them to acknowledge something that failed 5 years ago that is supposed to be the next big thing in Aus (thats bad marketing).

There's no problem with the fact that it was done (and failed) in 2005. Nine have brought back Hey Hey, and are bringing back The Block. New formats can't be devised so I guess looking to the past really is the most viable option.

Well Hey Hey was successful and the block was one of the biggest reality concepts when it was around. Hardly failed projects. But I don't think its the fact it was tried before and failed its the fact that the singing contests have failed in the last few years.

HUGH Sheridan from 'Packed to the Rafters', Axle Whitehead from 'Home and Away' and MTV Australia's Darren McMullen are battling it out to host the new production of 'The X Factor'.

This will culminate with a huge weekly live show, where the singers will battle it out in front of the judges and the Australian public. The ultimate winner will be rewarded with a recording contract with Sony Music Australia.
