Should people in Sydney be complaining that from 6AM - 7PM all the programming is produced in Melbourne?

I would be annoyed if this was the case visa-versa. What are your thoughts?

EuroKick, you might wanna change "Tripple M" to "Triple M".

------------------

Is this programming broadcast for Melbourne as well? If so, it's OK. But if it is solely for Sydney, it is not OK.

I'm afraid you're a little to late on that one:

The Australian Radio Network is a joint venture between APN News and Media and Clear Channel International. It is Australasia's largest radio broadcaster, with investments in 12 metropolitan radio stations in Australia and 94 radio stations in New Zealand. ARN is also shareholder in the pay-TV company, PAN TV.
Clear Channel holds the remaining 50% ownership of the Australian Radio Network.

Perhaps i should have said more Australian radio

We dont want to end up like some markets in the U.S where all stations are owned by the same company, formats are changed so they don't compete, others are closed, local content is lowered, and networked content is brought in...

Austereo have tried it in Adelaide though... well changing SA and MMM formats....

Yes, I am not a fan of Triple M's current format...

Too much talk, not enough localism or music (Triple M was born a rocker, and me thinks it should stay that way...).

The networked Richard Stubbs breakfast show in the mid 90s (out of Melb to Syd) failed, and I (personally hope) the same fate awaits the current line up.

I reckon the footy seasons will highlight the shortcomings of networked chat shows like the Cage and Shebang.

If this format fails, I think a return to a classic rock format will be the M's next move (though I would personally prefer it stayed with modern rock and dropped all the chat).

why can't it play a mixture of old and new music. Instead of playing just heaps of new music and a little bit old stuff at lunchtime.

They should never have deviated from the format that traditionally worked so well for them.
The FM stations seem to think everyone is under 30 and even though I'm young myself I want to hear the old classic album tracks as well as the new stuff.
With 2MMM we have seen the decline of a once proud Sydney Institution.
I've now permanently made the switch to WS FM or C91.3 for music.

That is really perthetic. I live in Country NSW and our local commercial station has more localism then MMM.

I should just point out that The Freq show in Adelaide is a local version with Sam Mac and Bambi.

Bambi also comes back at 11pm-1am, the Late Night Shebang is only on for an hour.

The Late Night Shebang, The Cage and Hot Hits (with Kyle and Jackie O) are all networked, the rest is local.

Here, here!

It's pathetic when a country station (like B-Rock, 2BS, 981 2NM and Power FM 98.1) can do more local stuff than a metro station.

For example (I'm using Power FM as an example, 98.1 in the Upper Hunter):

Power FM is local from 6am through the day until around 9pm (or thereabouts, I think) during the week and during the weekend, they take networked shows like The Hot Hits, Take 40, Rick Dees and Planet Rock.

No wonder they are failing.

They are trying to much to be like a rock version of fox and nova.

You will get more listeners if you hadn't changed your format.

Not everyone is under 30 why try and cater for that market

when teenages tastes in music change so offen.

Even new zealand has heaps of stations for the over 30 markets.

it seems like australia only has heaps of stations for the younger generation

but very few for the over 30's. Cater for both dammit.

i think triple m is strongest as a rock station for slightly older people. young builders and so on don't listen to triple m anymore. they listen to nova. but i think nova is a bit of a women's station myself. that's why i thought it was really weird Sue Javes would say the new station will likely be an older women than Nova station. come on! as if! the new station imo will be the one from DMG (likely) that will get those builders and so on (youngish guys) finally listening to the station they like. that's why i called it Dog 95. or 95X. and it's a harder version of Nova. no kylie and so on. these guys don't really have a station at the moment. nova is good but as i said it is a bit of a girl's station, not that there;s anything wrong with that. 2Day FM is also very much a girl's station. Triple M is old hat (kind of). WSFM is very old hat. MIX is for soccer mums

I've always wondered with POWER Hunter Valley how much of it is live..
I know POWER Illawarra (94.9) is mostly live, but they service much of the Wollongong area, therefore they can afford to it.

Given that the Upper Hunter is much smaller, my bet is that a fair share of their local programming is pre-recorded and 'automated', which probably isn't much better than taking a solely networked program...

I've read that it only takes a DJ 15 mins to put down the intros and back announcements for a 4h automated shift.

I'd dare say its something like that. Not knowing all that much about the inner-workings of 2NM/Power FM, I'd probably agree with you, but I do know it is locally done.

IIRC, they have two studios...one at 2NM's offices in Brook Street Muswellbrook (home of the wankers...sorry, personal issue) and one at the Rose Point Cinemas in Singleton.

I can confirm that:

6am to 8pm Weekdays, 6pm-??? Saturdays are localized
Fridays 8pm-12am, Sundays 10am-??? networked programming...
