Twitter has gone mad. Some candidates people are suggesting:
-Tony Jones
-Leigh Sales
-Maxine McKew (could be a bit awkward)
-Mark Latham (even more awkward)

Kerry O'Brien will step down as editor and presenter of the ABC's nightly current affairs program, The 7.30 Report, after fifteen years at the helm.

In the hierarchy of news affairs presenters, Tony Jones seems like the natural successor. Leigh Sales would be perfect on Lateline.

Tony Jones should move to the 7.30 Report, Leigh Sales to Lateline Mon-Fri & Kerry to Q & A if he's interested. If not Kerry, Virgina Trioli who I thought filled in well.
Actually that could work. with Virginia also doing Lateline on Friday, and sombody new on Breakfast.
I don't think Kerry would be good for Q&A though. I think he'll stick to special reports from now on, maybe election nights.

She has filled in before and is a real talent, and is wasted on afternoons on ABC News 24

I'd like to see Ali Moore replace Kerry.
She has filled in before and is a real talent, and is wasted on afternoons on ABC News 24
Her talent is exactly why she is needed on News 24. At the moment, positions on this channel may get little exposure due to a low audience, but the use of good quality presenters is what will allow it to increase its audience figures. There would be no point running a news channel filled with second-rate presenters and journalists.

might be a good carrot to dangle to stop her going to Ten...
