I think he's doing a Ray Martin and just appearing on a variety of shows throughout the ABC. Less day-to-day and more special reporting.

Leigh Sales? Outside choices?

To me, the obvious replacement is Tony Jones. Maybe O'Brien could be persuaded to do Q&A, as it would only be a couple of days per week job.

I'd be glad to see Tony Jones take over, but at the same time I don't want him to leave Q&A... he really shines on that show. Best of luck to Kerry anyway!

What if O'Brien was replaced by a mostly state-based program that included a national component. Would mean state affairs and national affairs Monday to Friday rather than the current 7:30 Report / Stateline.

In the hierarchy of news affairs presenters, Tony Jones seems like the natural successor. Leigh Sales would be perfect on Lateline.

Actually that could work. with Virginia also doing Lateline on Friday, and sombody new on Breakfast.
I don't think Kerry would be good for Q&A though. I think he'll stick to special reports from now on, maybe election nights.

Her talent is exactly why she is needed on News 24. At the moment, positions on this channel may get little exposure due to a low audience, but the use of good quality presenters is what will allow it to increase its audience figures. There would be no point running a news channel filled with second-rate presenters and journalists.
