Ricky Stuart and Adam Hawse will present a serious look at the week's Rugby League games on Ten at Monday 9.30 during the season.

Is it One or Ten? If the show is on One, does it mean One Week at a Time will be moved forward to 8.30pm? If it is shown on Ten, does it mean Good News Week will be moved to 10pm or later for viewers in NSW, ACT and QLD?

Just read the original article in The Sunday Telegraph today and it says the program will be on Ten.

The NRL has chosen Wests Tigers captain Benji Marshall as the man to front the code as the game prepares for a new era under an independent commission, and to head up the battle against the AFL's aggressive expansion into rugby league heartland.
The Sun-Herald

NRL chief executive David Gallop says in an interview that the new independent commission is still 12 months away, however TV rights negotiations between networks and the NRL has been fast-tracked and could be finalised as early as June.

South Sydney chief executive Shane Richardson believes it is crucial in the coming television rights negotiations that rugby league seizes control of match scheduling, saying the current practice in which Channel Nine picks who plays when during the season has an adverse effect on promoting the game.
Richardson said one clear message he has received from Rabbitohs members is they want a draw at the start of the season. He added not only did the current system make it hard for clubs to sell tickets, corporate boxes and even plan match-day promotions, there was also a sense of professional embarrassment by not being able to tell sponsors when his team would be playing.

The new NRL independent commission will be up and running by April 30 when News Limited finally exits. ARL chairman John Chalk, News Limited chief operating officer Peter Macourt, QRL director Terry Mackenroth and South Sydney chairman Nick Pappas have been chosen by News Ltd and the ARL to choose the eight commissioners charged with driving the code's biggest administrative shake-up.

I just came across posts on fan forums on why the NRL changed its Asian broadcaster from ABC-owned Australia Network to Setanta this year. Apparently the deal with Australia Network expired at the end of last season, and it offered less money for two games per week on delay, plus State of Origin and the Grand Final live. If you search "NRL setanta" you should be able to find the relevant posts, including emails to NRL's Graham Annesley (who has quit the league to become the Liberal candidate running for the seat of Miranda at the upcoming NSW state election) and Australia Network.

Perth set for NRL showpiece as WA bids for team in 2013

PERTH'S bid for an NRL team in 2013 will hinge on the success of the WA Rugby League's promotion of the sport over the next two weeks.

The WA Rugby League consortium is considered the frontrunner to earn a licence for a new team should the NRL decide to expand the competition to 18 sides.

Next Friday night, Perth will host an NRL clash between South Sydney Rabbitohs and Brisbane Broncos at nib Stadium, with the match to be broadcast live into the eastern states on Channel 9.

Really hope we get an NRL team. I'm not a massive follower of the sport personally, but there is a decent following of the sport here and if the NRL wants to to look at all like a truely 'NATIONAL' competition it needs a team here. NIB Stadium is also gaining a facelift over the next few years so we'll have the perfect rectangular stadium for it.

I'm also hoping that 9 Perth can broadcast the game next Friday Night at a decent time! At least a 9.30pm start or something instead of after midnight! It's a big clash and being in Perth and being the big showcase attempt to get a team here, why not?

Any chance of changing this thread to being a generic NRL thread as I don't think there's the usage to justify an annual thread (Just take the '2011' out).

------------------

Go the Eels! 28-20 over Sharks with only 4 minutes remaining.

EDIT: 29-20 with two to go courtesy of a Sandow field goal.

EDIT2: Tick, tick, tick... one minute left for the Sharks.

EDIT3: Full time. Parramatta by 9. NRL Tipping Comp results will be added shortly in the appropriate thread.

Watching NSW lose Origin is like watching that scene in American Pie where Jim blows it in front of Nadia...and the Internet. Repeatedly.

F**k Queensland.

No need to be nasty. We love you too. Honestly the best game of League I've ever watched. Now that's what you call a decider!

Probably the most appauling conduct was by the crowd at Suncorp. Boo-ing the Blues whenever they got a mention puts our state to shame.

Anyone who follows me on Twitter will know I blew up deluxe. Trust me, we're just as bad, and Origin to me is dead until neutral officials are brought in from the UK to control the games, and either the entire NSW selection panel and coach is sacked OR the QRL is dissolved (along with the NSWRL and NSWCRL) into the ARLC and their Indian Cricket-esque tampering with the game is stopped. It's a joke.

That shepard should not have been given a try. Queensland won that series on two dodgy decisions. Sick to death of it.

The player would never have caught Hodges anyway, and maybe he'd be better off trying to catch the player rather than whinging and sooking to the officials. If I was Ricky Stuart regardless of the decision I'd be pinning him against the locker and berating him.

IIRC it was Hannant who was 'supposedly' sheparding. I didn't see how he in any way got in the way of any Blues players. It was a try.
