Hamish Blake and Andy Lee are poised to sign a lucrative three-year deal with Channel 9 in the first coup of the new television ratings year.
The pair - who last year walked away from their dominant, self-titled national radio show - are "close" to finalising the deal that will see them produce more than 12 one-hour shows for the network each year for three years.
A source said: "They'll be given complete creative control.
"The boys (Hamish and Andy) like that Nine is backing comedy, with people like Ben Elton and Tony Martin fronting shows this year."

That's a big win for 9. 10 were silly to let them go.

That is huge. I was secretly hoping this would happen but never truly thought it would. Hamish and Andy must have really liked what Nine were doing with comedy.

I have been listening to their radio show for the past three years and watched their specials on Ten. It's a loss for Ten but Hamish and Andy never really signed a long-term deal with the network. However, I will never watch their programs on Nine.

And why not, a pety dislike for the network getting in the way? Pretty sad if that's the case.

Yes we all know what happened with Micallef when he signed with Nine. They meddled and destroyed his show.

Nine might be investing in comedy but their track record suggests it won't work. The Nation anyone?

People are overstating how Nine will perform this year. Their prime time line up seems dated and drab. They will not allow new content to grow and they will be quick with the axe. It will be more of The Mentalist, Top Gear, Two and Half Men, BBT and a tired CSI. I personally do not watch any prime time entertainment show on Nine.

I like Ben Elton but the show doesn't seem to be very defined. But it could surprise.

Joy of Sets seems great but I reckon it should be on the ABC. It doesn't seem very Nine.

And Hamish and Andy on Nine doesn't seem convincing to me. They are very "Ten". People won't necessarily move across. They could flop and be warehoused for a few years like many a contracted nine star has done. Seven never replicated the success of Thank God You're Here when they poached that from Ten.

The only good thing to come out of this is that with Nine getting Hamish and Andy...surely they won't have any money for Daryl and that piece of shit show of his.

Interesting, I'd like to know more about the bidding. I wonder how competitive ten were 9 must be paying them heaps.

It'll be strange seeing them on 9 probably the network people associate with them the least.

Sounds like a staunch ten fan in much distress over this. It is pointless to bring out links to Micallef when that show aired under a completely different executive to the one which runs 9 now. And it's funny you say 9s suite of shows being outdated will suddenly hurt it this year yet the best new shows 7 can come up with are international remakes and more friggen cooking shows along with the age old likes of Border, Housewives, Greys and Home and Away. Screams out as such a more winning format.

Big coup for Nine, a poo poo outcome for Ten. I've never really liked Hamish and Andy so I doubt I'll be tuning in. I wonder though, what sort of concepts will the 12+ shows revolve around? Random stuff thrown together on the cheap knowing it will rate because of 'Hamish and Andy' or will they go for something along the lines of a variety/Rove type show?

Is their audience over at Nine? I am guessing money speaks though, and no doubt Nine threw a shitload their way. No other reason they would move, certainly not that "The boys (Hamish and Andy) like that Nine is backing comedy" excuse.

Fantastic result for Nine. I thought it was very strange that Ten hadn't made an announcement yet.

Cue mass hysteria from the ten fanbois. This is a Thank God You're Here 2.0.

The HS article goes on to say that the show will be produced by their production company, Radio Karate, and that Nine will give them 'full creative control'. Even if that were the case, Hamish and Andy wouldn't have control over how many times Nine/GO show it, and that for me is my main concern. Nine have a track record of killing shows through overexposure. It's happened with Gordon Ramsey, TAAHM, and it's starting to happen to Top Gear. I hope Nine doesnt treat them badly. Nine have some big names on their list for this year, will be interesting to see if people warm to their new signings.

Personally I think people over estimate the appeal of them on TV. They only got the HUGE ratingson Ten because of Masterchef lead in. Without that their specials were around 1.1 million. By no means a poor result but over 12 episodes I think that will decline. Also I don't think Nine is the best fit for them. Still thats my opinion. And they dont have the massive cross-promo from the radio which i think will be a negative influence.

But still a big coup for Nine and they woukd have been silly not to go after them. Will be interesting.

I just don't see the brands Hamish and Andy and Nine being a hand-in-glove fit.

With this they will have been at all three commercial networks, so they've got that going for them. Either way, I'm looking forward to this if it goes ahead.

Nope not a staunch fan of any network. I like elements of all the networks. I like Nine for its Rugby League, Underbelly. I agree with what yoy say about Seven. But some of thier Aussie dramas are top notch. I like Ten's entertainment programming and didgital tv offerings. So do not make assumptions about my analysis.

Nine have a poor track record when it somes to entertainment/comedy programming and I think Hamish and Andy do not fit their audience profile.

While Hamish and Andy won't appear on Ten programs anymore, Hamish can still be seen on new Australian comedy twentysomething, which will air on ABC2 later this year.

Anyone looking at this news as anything but brilliant for Nine must be insane. H&A are a massive coup for the network. Quite a few argued 'Top Gear' wouldn't shine on Nine either but look what happened there. Audiences will follow comedy no matter what, especially since the network is already home of Australia's highest-rating sitcoms. Schedule the boys well, have some structure in the program and promote the hell out of the end result and Nine will be facing some worthy results.

That all said, I don't think viewers will flock back week after week if the show lacks any structure.

I don't think they'll be able to get away with Caravan of Courage type shows week in week out. Having said that, they haven't done anything else, which is a risk.
