The Seven Network has won the first week of the 2011 ratings year, winning six out of seven nights.
Seven won three key demos 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54.
It also won in all five metro cities, taking every night except Saturday, which fell to Nine. The ABC defeated TEN on Saturday night.

Seven seem to have gotten the ball rolling well in comparison to the other networks lineups, can see them winning a few more weeks to come. 14 of the top 20 all Seven titles, as well as winning key demos

Ten aren't doing well with only a few shows above 1mil. 7 off to a good start it'll probably only get easier without event programming on 9 and with MKR picking up pace.

Nine News wins the week over Seven News in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

Hopefully, this result lessens the disappointment of some of the results from Nine's premiere shows which include Underbelly Files, Live from Planet Earth and Mike and Molly.

Interesting early evening comparison to last year. Ten are obviously down a lot between 6pm-7pm, but so are Seven and Nine. Is this because of their News strategy or the extra competition from digitals? 7pm Project is the only show to increase compared to last year, and Two & A Half Men repeats down significantly. When averaging the figures over the hour and a half from 6pm-7.30pm, Ten are actually down the least number of viewers compared to last year followed by Seven and Nine are down the most.

You need to look at it from a % variance point of view. Ten are coming off a much lower base, so they would have lost a large % share of their viewers.

Comparing actual viewers loss/gain YoY isn't an accurate method to measure performance.

everything might be down but i think this these two are the most alarming drops of that post. and 33k is a pretty small increase for 7pm considering how much chestbeating ten do about their heroics of sticking with a bomb that is now paying off.

I understand the percentages would be worse for Ten coming from a lower base, but I was just looking at viewer numbers...and it is interesting to see how many total viewers each network has dropped compared to last year.

everything might be down but i think this these two are the most alarming drops of that post. and 33k is a pretty small increase for 7pm considering how much chestbeating ten do about their heroics of sticking with a bomb that is now paying off.

I think these two are pretty alarming as well:

2011 - 59 Two And A Half Men -Rpt Nine 723,000 194,000 246,000 153,000 63,000 69,000
2010 - 39 Two And A Half Men -Rpt Nine 974,000 277,000 325,000 192,000 69,000 111,000
DOWN 251,000

2011 - 15 Seven News Seven 1,139,000 280,000 314,000 217,000 143,000 184,000
2010 - 10 Seven News Seven 1,310,000 316,000 380,000 265,000 173,000 176,000
DOWN 171,000

While Ten are obviously struggling with trying to build an audience from nothing with their news strategy...Seven and Nine are both down significantly between 6pm-7pm as well, and this cannot be ignored as they have not done anything different to warrant the huge drops they are experiencing.

The fact that 7pm Project has increased on last year's figures and has an average lead-in of only 333,000 is an amazing result. Increasing year-on-year, when all other shows are down, especially with a lower lead-in than last year and doubling its lead-in is definitely a success story.

You need to look at it from a % variance point of view. Ten are coming off a much lower base, so they would have lost a large % share of their viewers.

Comparing actual viewers loss/gain YoY isn't an accurate method to measure performance.

And comparing ratings to a year ago is pretty meaningless. Just as valid to compare ratings to last ratings period of 2010 week 48.
Home & Away up 10k, 2.5 Men down 83k & 7pm Project down 23k.
It's fun playing with statistics.

I think these two are pretty alarming as well:

7news is down 13% from winning numbers and they are still winning, normal fluctuation. 6PM and evening news are down 30% and 40% respectively from figures that were already considered a joke. you might not see it but i'm sure its clear to everyone else which one is more alarming.

and yes 2.5 is doing poorly at the moment, 9 should and probably will replace it, maybe with the big bang, end of story, no big deal. its still beating 7pm anyway which is apparantly a "success story".

The fact that 7pm Project has increased on last year's figures and has an average lead-in of only 333,000 is an amazing result. Increasing year-on-year, when all other shows are down, especially with a lower lead-in than last year and doubling its lead-in is definitely a success story.

if 7pm was a 9:30 show doubling its leadin sure it would be a huge sucess, but its no biggie in early evenings when people are coming home and turning on their tvs. 7 and 9 news more than double their gameshow leadins every day we dont ever hear you say that they are definitely sucess stories because they double their leadin. in 7pms case it says more about how badly ten evening news rates than how well 7pm is doing. and since you clearly believe a shows sucess is judged from its leadin care to explain this one:

56 Ten News At Five Ten 743,000 200,000 222,000 123,000 75,000 123,000
2011 – 6PM WITH GEORGE NEGUS 368,800 (MY CALCULATIONS)
DOWN 375k
