Downton Abbey is a British period drama which the Seven network has acquired. It is the best drama to come out of the UK in years, having received rave reviews and incredible ratings which made it the most watched drama series in the UK since 2003. It is set to win a number of awards over the next year or two due to magnificent writing by Lord Julian Fellowes, who incidentally won an Oscar for Gosford Park, and the marvellous acting of the stellar cast including Academy Award winning Maggie Smith. The show became an absolute phenomenon when it aired in the UK last Autumn.

Does anyone know when Seven plans to show this absolutely astonishing drama series? It's a show one surely can not miss. I really hope they promote it well because I believe it's a show which could get a very good audience here.

But it's a very good show, absolutely top quality in fact. I would hope the quality shines through and viewers over here give it a chance? After all, it's not the typical kind of programme audiences would go for in the UK, particularly on ITV, but it's done amazingly well there and in the US too (most watched drama on PBS this century). I think viewers here would appreciate seeing such a good show and don't think it would "tank".

It could work if they show it on a Friday or Saturday night. Maybe with Not Going Out after it. :P

I can definitely see it on Saturdays. ABC has so many UK dramas that work there so I hope Seven follows suit.

Well, I watched the first two eps of this on a plane last night and there is no question it is absolutely, gob smackingly fantastic, but I stand by my original comments that I dont think Channel 7 as the right place for it, I really just cant see the Border Security or Home and Away audience getting into this. T

That said, I wouldnt have picked it to be an ITV show if I didnt know that was where it aired in the UK

When it was first shown in the UK it did really well with the younger demographic which is pretty rare for period drama though this is probably because it had The X Factor as a lead in.

Seven are really trying to make the show look cool and unlike any of those other period dramas.

Sounds very similar to Evanescence's song Bring Me To Life in the beginning.

Apparently it is 'cool' atleast from what people have said here and the ratings back in the UK.

I think you're right, a remixed version though.

Great promo, I'm not sure where it will go though. ITV1 paired it with 'Every Breathe you Take' for their promo.

your confusing it with something else, the BBC are producing or have produced a remake of Upstairs Downstairs, this never had anything to do with that..

I much prefer the Seven version. I think it conveys the drama, power, whatever other adjective you want to use, alot better.
