The more that I watch and read the more that I want this to premiere. Where will it go?

Different style of promo for Downton Abbey.

Great use of the song. Really gives the show a contemporary feel.

Was hoping that the Royal Wedding would have been the perfect backdrop to announce an air date but apparently not. Still, a good promotional tie-in for the show.

There's no "apparently" about it. It is brilliant. One of the best dramas you'll see this year :)

I agree, but I have said it before and will say it again, I dont think channel 7 is the right place for it and I think it will struggle here

Well it did air on ITV in the UK which was a strange place for it as well and it did brilliantly. But yes, Australia is a different place. At least Seven wont have to edit the commercial breaks in since they are already there.

ITV wasn't a strange place for it to air at all. They've had plenty of period dramas in the recent and distant past (they were of course the home of the original Upstairs Downstairs). What was unusual was the high amount of 16-34 year olds tuning in which was thanks to the X Factor lead in.

Those adverts from 7 are very impressive but really are totally irrelevant to the show. I never thought I'd hear music like that used for Downton Abbey!

Downton Abbey premieres Sunday May 29 (source: The Age Green Guide). Seven will be hoping that the large number of younger viewers who watch Dancing with the Stars will stay around for DA, just like the UK where the drama benefited from The X Factor lead in.

29th, so still 2.5 weeks away. That means DWTS and Downton will end in the same night. I thought it might air on the 22nd and have a 3hr DWTS finale again.

Good. There's nothing to watch on Sundays at 8.30pm.

I think this will do very well in total people in the Sunday 8.30pm slot, which has been huge for Midsomer on ABC, but I'm not convinced it will do that well in the demos. Though its competition is either older skewing (The Mentalist) or skews no one (Hawaii Five 0), so perhaps it will.

There is also The Kennedys (4 part mini-series) on the ABC, but I think it's skewed towards older people as well.

Just a guide to see how this had performed over in New Zealand may be a guide to how it goes here:

"Prime Television's hot new Edwardian drama series Downton Abbey proved to be as popular with New Zealand viewers on launch as it did with its British fans, resulting in record ratings for the free-to-air channel."

Not that Prime TV is necessary the pinnacle of high ratings in NZ it is encouraging. My advice... watch!

It will probably work on a Friday or Saturday night when TV execs think everyone is out partying. Depends on the age demographic they're targeting which is most likely to be the over 30's or older

I remember when The Pacific premiered everyone was surprised that 16-39 was it's strongest demographic. I don't think it is too much of a stretch to think the same could happen here. Especially with the competition it has.

The Cloudstreet premiere is this Sunday on Foxtel, anyone think this may be factor in Downton Abbey not starting til next week? DWTS needs to eliminate some people to get shorter so DA starts at a respectable time, but I suspect they would have very similar audiences. What is CS expected to get ratings wise? I don't follow the PayTv ratings so not sure what a good mark would be? Although only a couple of hundred thousand I suspect.

I don't think Seven needs to worry about anything on Foxtel. The woeful ratings of 100k will have no impact on Downton Abbey. Speaking of which, the latest ad looks really good, the modern music works really well with the storyline.
