When did each channel begin coverage and who was the first, what have the shifts been?

Basically they all started during their scheduled bulletins (Seven from 11.30, Nine during their morning news, ABC1 from 12). Ten started after The Circle.

More reports from Ten Melbourne, including a phone interview with Huey.

I am a bit disturbed SBS had rolling coverage this afternoon for the NZ earthquake but never had anything during Australias summer of disasters.

SBS is more World News, they don't have very many reporters (only two were covering the initial Queensland floods) but they do have many over seas connections and can run another services coverage like they have done in the past (mostly BBC World News).

ABC News 24 already has special "Earthquake" graphics using the same template as "Egypt Crisis" and "Cyclone Yasi".

I realise that but there were alot of questions surrounding foreign people or backpackers unaware of warnings at the time of the floods and cyclones. I think SBS would have been benefitial for them then.

Anyway ABC1 has a scroller telling viewers to turn to News24 for continuous coverage.

What's happening in other states with 7s national coverage wrapping at 6pm AEDT?

Nine News Melbourne opener and first story (and end of the national coverage):

Seven News coming up in a second and the full 6PM up a bit later.

Seven News Melbourne (and presumably nationally) going for an hour with TT at 7, Nine doing a half hour, ACA at 6:30 and a special edition at 7pm.

TV Tonight reporting Nine will have a Nine News special at 9:30pm, pushing Ben Elton Live from Planet Earth to 10:30pm (not sure if it will still be live).

So queenslands getting local 5pm news.

Wendy Kingston didn't mention other states like SA and WA prior to 6pm AEDT. What is happening with 9 in other states.

Doesn't appear Evening news is airing tonight on Ten with ads taking us past 6:30pm on SC Ten.

It says on my EPG for nine
7.00 - 8.00 NATIONAL NINE NEWS SPECIAL
Someone at nine wants the "national" back!

I've tuned in to it & it's a relay of Radio NZ, which is their equivalent of ABC Radio.

Win not airing the Nine 7pm Special, instead they are showing ACA. Would have been better to just not show ACA and just air the special instead.

It is an hour long, so they will have to show part of it.

6PM's coverage:

Do any of the Australian networks have a reporter on the ground yet in New Zealand?
