It started off AWFUL (the interraction between Chas and John and awkward pauses mainly) but has found its groove over the last few weeks.

Chas said in the first show that he wasn't there to be funny, but he tries to be funny almost every sentence. I don't know why the ABC feels that it has to add comedy or light-heartedness to a show like this. On one occasion Chas insulted Americans generally in the presence of an American guest. I don't see why people interested in American politics need that sort of crap. A straightforward current affairs format would be better.

I think its one of the best shows going around at the moment. The humor is sharp and funny and its something different.

Don't knock it cos its something new.

I'm not. I'm knocking it because it's a bad way to do a show on American politics.

I'm always terrified that Chas will say something embarrassing to a satellite interview guest.

Sounds kind of bitter to me. And why are you 'terrified'? It's not like you're the one being interviewed.

I don't know what you mean. I've explained why I think it's not an appropriate way to do a show like this. Does all criticism sound bitter to you? I am Chaser fan, BTW. I even didn't have a problem with the dead-people's song or the Make A Wish sketch. But there's a place for comedy and a show like this isn't it.

And why are you 'terrified'? It's not like you're the one being interviewed.

For the sake of the possibly unsuspecting guest. Chas speaks impulsively. You never know what he might come out with trying to be funny.

I think there is a place for comedy in a show like this.

The US and US Politics is known for its stupidity and laughable elements. It needs to be poked at!

Well, I have to say that tonight's Planet America was very, very good. Even Chas was excellent throughout.

Its getting quite kick-ass, prob one of the better shows on 24 because it has its own identity rather than the run-to-the-remote-to-change-the-channel "Quarters".

I think Planet America should have 4 more years...

I like it too, it's good that ABC is including some humour in its news channel. I doubt it will return beyond this year, but they could adapt the format for another show, perhaps News Exchange which to me seems like it's screaming for a second host.

I quite like the Quarters, well some of them... it's nice to see little stories that aren't just rehashing of the same news and issues we've seen on every network.

The trouble with them is that I never know when each one is on. I'm not sure they even show an episode of the same quarter on the same day each week.

I think it will continue. Its their most entertaining program. Both hosts are good. The problem with a lot of inhouse stuff at the ABC is that it isnt always very creative. This is an example of an inhouse show that has a bit of freedom to be creative and try out new things.

Agree with Retter, even if the ABC decide to stop this show once the election is over, they should have a show like this going thats a bit of a light hearted/comedic look at the news. It's perfect for Friday nights.

I would love to see CNNNN back! That would be great for News 24 lol. The chaser boys know this stuff like the back of their hand so get them involved I say.

I'd be very surprised if it continues. It's an election-year program. There will be always plenty of material in other years, but it's reason for being is clearly the build-up to the November election.

Its not just an election year show at all. Its really a spin-off of the radio program John Baron does on ABC News Radio (which is continuous, not just for election years). The fact is, no matter what year it is, there is always interesting news/issues coming from America. Perhaps non-election years are just as interesting because that is when policy gets put in place. 4 more years!

Last nights ep was very good. I enjoy how they brek down some of the partisan issues, polling and explain how the political system works. I also think it would be a great show to broadcast into Asia, so I presume the ABC does this.

Absolutely agree - and it should be longer episodes even - great breakdown by Chas also......
