Very interesting results. Seven News Brisbane won by a close margin.

Those are shocking results for Seven News Sydney too.

Masterchef done as expected, being above 1 million.

Considering Tennis and Cricket were both on, it managed a strong Melbourne audience and I think Ten will be happy with that result given the performance they have had lately - it gave them a 2nd place Channel win.

One did some impressive numbers, however Eleven seems to have struggled last night and cost Ten in the Network shares.

It would be interesting to see a breakdown on the cricket results - I'd imagine most people jumped off pretty quick when Nine went to a 1984 match between Australia and the West Indies

Not bad for master chef. Most of those viewers will stick judging by the reviews.
Epic tennis much did well for seven especially the late figures.

About where I expected everything to be.

- Cricket does very well for the day session, giving Nine News a nice boost an dropped off with the rain delay.

- Tennis does OK for the night session with a one-sided women's match but boy did it pick up with amazing late night figures for the epic men's match with over 400k still watching past 12:30am.

14 SEARCH FOR THE SHARK CALLERS Rpt Network 7 460,000 99,000 202,000 84,000 70,000 5,000

- MC:Pro premiers above a million which is good, could have been higher considering the cricket was called off but most of those viewers would have gone to tennis. I don't think Seven would be too worried about MKR going up against it though.

Elsewhere... Downton Abbey repeats well on 7TWO as do the movie on 7mate (promoted very well in the early evening).

Is there any particular reason for The Simpsons going so well tonight?

Fantastic results for MasterChef.

Great start for MasterChef: The Professionals. I was planning to watch the episode at the MC website after cricket, but when I heard there was a rain delay I decided to watch it as it went to air, and switched to the tennis during the ad breaks.
Huge audience for Nine News Melbourne (nearly 600,000!) thanks to the cricket lead-in (day session did not finish until 6.05pm AEDT).
The tennis gave Seven impressive ratings.

A good result for Masterchef. I don’t think the absolute number is as important as the share of viewers.

Main story is Masterchef was number one program in the three demos and was able to outrate the tennis by over 200,000 in total people. It had a peak audience of 1,390,000 and won its timeslot.

Surprised to see Simpsons in the top 20 but not Modern Family.

Huge late night for Seven with late tennis. Not a good start for Bill McDonald (due to the cricket no doubt).

In the Oztam figures Simpsons is listed as going from 6pm-7.30pm...so there must have been a coding error with Modern Family.

Love how The Australian refers to MC Professionals as a "lukewarm launch" despite also stating that it was number one in all key demos, referencing Ten's poor performance lately, the fact that it was an early launch and also the show coming third for the night in TPs overall.

WTF were their expectations then? Did bloody well considering Ten's performance lately.

Yes: Modern Family Ep 2 got 648,000 so the Simpsons number includes this.

I actually agree with The Australian's assessment. Considering the lack of competition and the non stop promotion this show has had, I would've expected Masterchef to do better. If the audience doesn't build significantly over the next two nights, this show is going to get slaughtered when MKR and 60 Minutes returns.

Are you joking? People are still in summer viewing mode and viewing numbers have been low for weeks across the board. Apart from the news and sport there is NOTHING on television at the moment that is pulling anything anywhere near this. For a network that has been averaging less than 500,000 viewers across primetime slots for months now to then come out with this, this is an absolute massive premiere. Nothing on Ten has worked for months and months and despite still being summer non-rastings this premiere delivered well. There was no way it was going to pull any better than this and I'm sure Ten would have even been happy with around 800k based on recent performance, but it's done even better. It now has a head start on MKR and if people get hooked on this... then a very smart decision to start early.
