And that is what good casting is all about. And god promos all weekend. Bloody hell. Insane figures. Would be the highest figure maybe outside the "winners announcement".

Block and MC got SMASHED. even seven would not have been expecting that.

Insane numbers for a regular episode of MKR. Demolished The Block's opening night and killed any chance of MC remaining competitive.

As I said yesterday, Seven need to add a Sunday episode.

It seems that the public doesn't want professional chefs in cooking shows (unless there's no alternative)
Interesting that Home & Away beat the Block in TP & 16-39 demos.

It is the most-watched regular episode of MKR history, breaking last year's record of 1.924 million when "Dr Evil" and his lawyer partner (Peter and Gary from QLD) were cooking. I never believed it would break the 2 million mark so early in this series. I also did not believe The Block and MC got smashed like this.
The return of Revenge rated very well too.

Superbowl ratings for Australia, not quite at the US level where a record 48% of TV sets were tuned in (preliminary).

The Block all stars was always a bridge to far for my mind, how entertaining can it be watch peopl renovate for the 2nd time..?
Poor Masterchef, its actually a really good show and doesnt deserve that kind of thrashing..

I don't believe those ratings for MKR. How can a show suddenly make such a huge jump based on a couple of characters that fell over anyway. I like to see the consolidated figures. I watched the Block. I thought it wasn't too bad. Shame about MC Pro cause its pisses all over MKR which is just trashy, sensationalism TV.

and to think everyone on the predictions thread thought MKR would drop. thats insane, masterchef never hit 2.2mil in its second week, the competition is in for a long headache.

9 would have to be disapointed with the block, it started at 7:00 so didn't have that much competition for the first half. MC bombs, don't know what else ten were expecting to happen

Wait a minute, wasn't Masterchef getting a million viewers yesterday ? Hope House Rules bombs for Seven though.

Anyone know how Masterchef did in demos ?

Will be interesting too see how the numbers for these shows go up or down in the next day or so.

I think a lot of people are watching all three. Making a decision what to watch on TV based on promos and catching up on the rest either on catch up TV or from recording it.

wow. im in the same boat as you all. Didn't expect to see those figures for MKR so early into the show. Those figures are way better than i thought it would get. It beat The Block, and smashed Masterchef.

ABC's return of Media Watch did well, and Q&A did ok.

I think the encores are playing a big part here, i was watching MC:pro, and might have continued to if MKR wasnt on, and i am slightly interested in The Block, but since those two have catchups all over the schedule there is no burning need to watch the first airing, so MKR gets my viewership. but then between the 3 there is 12+ hours of content to watch per week which is too much and i dont think anyone will continue to watch all 3.

I can't stand MKR, but the dynamic of the show is perfect watercooler coversation so I get why the ratings jumped so much after the first week, but would have expected it to top out around 1.8m, not quite that high. Would be good to see the 15min ratings to see if Revenge viewers were switching on early cause the figures to jump where a lot of MKR viewers may have switched off.

Goes to show that if you have a format that resonates well with the public, you can still pull 2m+ on a random weekday right at the start of ratings period.

Very weak start for The Block, the All Stars format was always going to be a big risk. MC Pro at Junior MC levels already.

Fantastic figures for MKR, that's what great casting does and is an excellent example of why The Block bombed. Who wants to watch a boring batch of people renovate the second time around?

I assume just ONE - if there was joint coding it would have appeared under Network TEN.
