Like J Bar said yesterday, reality fatigue has set in. Both The X Factor and The Block fell from Tuesday and attracted less than 1 million viewers, and The Bachelor had average figures for its return. The benefactor was Commonwealth Games which helped Ten winning the night.

Offspring down a bit from last week but it was a good figure despite the 9.15pm start.

Even though they are still up the top reality tv fatigue has definitely set in.

Was FF on Ten only? A very good figure regardless.

Seven is messing around with W&L and Ten is messing around with Offspring. Must be frustrating for producers that if they're making anything for a post-8.30 timeslot that their product is going to get shafted at the nearest opportunity just for the sake of propping up a reality show.

Yes, reality fatigue has certainly set in and perhaps we will see the reality bubble burst soon. lol

Was expecting The Bachelor to debut a bit higher but then again I was expecting The X Factor and The Block to be stronger too. Seems the audience is divided but more and more (like me) are looking for alternatives.

Good to see Offspring having such a strong season. Still did well in a much later slot and much better than its lead-in. Surely Ten will do everything they can to get at least another season made, even though the storylines seem to be pointing towards more of a conclusion next week.

I don't think the reality ratings have as much to do with fatigue as live sport. When the Glasgow Games are finished there are a lot of viewers available to go back to the reality shows.

Re Family Feud. Last night's 620,000 is 61% higher than the average Wednesday audience for Ten plus Eleven this year in the 6-6.30 timeslot. This is according to Ten's media release. That means that Modern Family plus 90210 averaged 385,000.

(They often put out such information but it usually compares the FF figure to the average audience for the entire week, which I think is not a fair comparison, so have stayed away from those numbers.)

Last year The Bachelor launched to 669,000 - a Sunday that everyone said was crazy up against The X-Factor and AGT etc

The X-Factor that night had 1,556,000 and AGT 1,133.000. Last night's XF is the show lowest rating ever on Seven.

Was expecting The Bachelor to debut a bit higher but then again I was expecting The X Factor and The Block to be stronger too. Seems the audience is divided but more and more (like me) are looking for alternatives.

I have been watching so much YouTube. And I am usually a big X Factor fan. I just dont have the time any more to devote hours and hours of my night to long and drawn out reality TV.

I would probably expect a trimming of episodes for reality all round next year. Fingers crossed they invest instead in local comedy (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and drama. Not holding my breath.

I doubt that MC, for one, will be trimmed. It's Ten's one decent hit, so I expect it to be extended if anything.

I think the networks got greedy with reality and by extending everything by adding lots of recaps and filler, they have actually damaged these reality shows. I think having short, sharp one hour episodes of these reality shows would guarantee huge ratings and let other shows that follow, develop an audience too.

If you don't watch the reality show, you're not going to bother tuning into whatever drama/comedy follows because you can't be bothered guessing the start time. I know a lot of people that have given up on free to air tv these past couple of years because they hate reality. They usually end up watching downloads from overseas so Aussie dramas and comedies are the biggest losers.

Yup! Could not have said it better myself.

Reality shows need to be contained into a sharp one hour timeslot. There is absolutely no need for an episode of The Block, XFactor or Masterchef to run for 73 minutes.

I really think reality fatigue has set in this year, it's just a constant barrage of tripe for the most part.

Taking TARA as an example it's scheduled to start at 9.10 but could start anywhere from 9.10 to 9.30 which is ridiculous. I know it's considered a reality format as well, but it feels more game-show-y than anything else in my opinion.

Bring back the days of sitcoms and dramas filling up our screens.

Ratings: Ten wins another night as reality TV ratings tumble

How is Big Brother going to fare following The Block at some varying time each night (not known until the day of broadcast usually) and from week to week - not so good I think.

I can't believe it that Ten is on the verge of winning this week which is helpful to the struggling network. It will be a present for sure with the network turning 50

More significantly, TEN is on track to win the ratings week -which would be its grandest 50th birthday present of all.

Worth noting that Offspring was the top show in all the demos last night and The Bachelor was second or third. Also, Ten 16.6% almost level with Nine 16.7% in main channel share.

Big night for Ten, owning the demos. More important than total numbers, but they won that as well. Great to see them doing well.

Best of all though, are reality tentpoles dying finally? Hope so, bring back some programming people who don't/can't sit through 5 hours+ a week of content.

For a Wednesday Night in the middle of winter, the figures are absolutely dire - I can't recall the Delhi Commonwealth Games affecting general primetime audiences in the same way, albeit they were much later in the year. If these figures don't improve (for both The Block & X Factor), some serious questions are going to be asked about the future viability of some of these expensive reality tentpoles.

On a different note, the Commonwealth Games leadin seems to be helping Studio 10 - It's getting (well, the early coding) closer and closer to coming 2nd.

I thought it would happen and it did... Offspring still getting higher than The Bachelor return (despite that starting earlier)! Offspring still up to earns 900k at 9:15pm :o A really good result IMO.

With Offspring returning to the normal 8:30pm-ish start next week and being the finale, it will get around 1.2 million :)

As for The Bachelor (like last year) it will steadily rise in coming weeks, with the final weeks pushing the million again?

Yes, seems reality fatigue has set in now. The X Factor and The Block both attracted under the magic million and average figures for the premiere of The Bachelor also. Good numbers for Offspring considering the late start it got last night (should get over a million for the season final next week). And solid numbers for the Comm Games again on Ten which went a long way to win them the night.
