It also goes through 2CBA and 2VTR so unsure what happened to them.

Instead of the 3pm news bulletin, the station played the seven-minute version of the song Macarthur Park.

UE is syndicated to regional AMers... who would have taken the UE feed if it was pulsed (switched from UE's computer). This happens when local stations are automated in the afternoons (many are). If the pulse hit at 3.05pm, which I think is when UE news finishes, and the song was playing, it would have cut away to the local news/weather reports on that station.

Many regionals take UE's FM feed, which is normally recorded about :45 to :50

Often someone/something stuffs up and stations get David Armstrong or Tony Tardio and AW News... biggrin.gif

do any other Sydney stations take news from 2UE?

In Melbourne, 3AW news feeds to Magic (naturally), 3MP, SEN and used to also go to 927 but I think they do their own now

There's a couple of community stations that take it but thats about it AFAIK. You can receive it on 2ST as well.

Dunno, I'd Reccon the nearest ones would be WAVE FM Woolongong, KOFM Newcastle, 2LT Lithgow & 2GN Goulburn but don't quote me on that embarrassed.gif

KOFM Newcastle,

nope. KO source news from 2UE, 2GB, MRRW (or whatever they call themselves this week) and Austereo, but don't take any 2UE bulletins. KO does take 2GB's Macquarie News on Saturday afternoons because of the Rugby League.

So that's why there was no news on 2UE at 3pm this afternoon. I was flicking over to 2UE at that time & I heard "Macarthur Park", thinking, "why there was no news bulletin coming out on 2UE at that time?"

Wave FM doesn't take 2UE's news. They do, however, take news from 2UE's FM feed, like this afternoon (why Wave FM doesn't always have locally-produced news on a weekday afternoon while rival station i98 does have it, I'll never know unsure.gif).

Other radio stations in Regional NSW that take 2UE's news (apart from the ones already mentioned) are:

2EC Bega/Batemans Bay
2XL Cooma
2NM Muswellbrook
2BS Bathurst
Great Lakes FM Forster (community)

Not too sure what happened at 2VTR as I was at work, but if there was no sound coming out of the satellite, usually the announcer just puts music on until 5 past then does the weather.

Fair enough, so I guess the "MacArthur Park" song (Richard Harris BTW) was played only on 2UE while the satellite feed was silent.

I was listening to 2EC at that time (from Sans Souci where I get a weak signal in the daytime) and they put on "Help Is On It's Way" by LRB laugh.gif .

Ah, OK embarrassed.gif Thanks SS silly.gif

Never mind, George & Paul are pretty good too.

I remember George Moore on 2DAY in the 80's although MMM was the better station.

Interesting newsreader on 2UE this morning too, very unique style.

I wrote the name down but left it in the car. Watch this space

Robert Spicer?

He was night time newsreader at 2GB up until not that long ago, and has since been breakfast editor at 2UE. Looks like he's filling in.

Strange I haven't come across him before. Was he mostly on 2GB?

Up until recently my radio was pretty much glued onto 2UE but now I occasionally switch over to 2GB as well.

He was at 2UE throughout most of the 80s as a reporter, reader and exec before moving to ABC Newcastle mainly in management.
He returned to Sydney radio a couple of years ago at 2GB before going to 2UE.

You're right about his voice. He sounds like somebody off Ten News or such. It is a nice sound for radio - but it just sounds weird not waking up to Steve Blanda.

Enjoying Stuart Bocking's show tonight reminicsing about Stan Zemanek, playing grabs from his shows, taking calls and talking with Marcella.

It will be one year since Stan passed away tomorrow.
