Just noticed at the 2GB website that Jason Morrison has been given his own programme. It's on Saturdays from 6pm-8pm where Pete Graham used to be on air. I wonder if this is why Pete was moved off the team, or if this is just a trial for things to come...

Apparently Pete is doing Saturday nights on 2UE

Don't be surprised if Jason Morrision gets a show between 4-8pm on Saturdays and 4-6pm on Sundays. Once the Continuous Call Team ends this weekend that's the time shifts they've done in the past (with the Club Show in one of those hours) for Glenn Wheeler, Jason Morrision and Angela Bishop and I think last year Dan Mullins and Kaylee Harris were on from memory.

Two pieces of news out of 2GB today.

Firstly, Crikey is reporting that Channel 9 are trying to poach Jason Morrison to be 9's Sydney news director in 2009.

Secondly, Ray Hadley's morning program is going regional in 2009:

QUOTE
Macquarie Southern Cross Media are very excited to announce an agreement in principle is in place with radio 2GB to launch for the first time in regional Australia The Ray Hadley morning program between 9am and 11am Monday to Friday in 2009.

Ray is no stranger to listeners to many MACSC radio stations as The voice of the NRL on weekends.

National Group Program Director of Macquarie Southern Cross Media Rod Brice said “Ray’s number 1 rating morning show on 2GB has a massive amount of audience interaction and we are very excited that next year it will now include the opportunity for many of our regional listeners to join in and have their voice heard.”

CEO of Macquarie Radio Network Angela Clark said “Ray Hadley very much looks forward to welcoming regional Australia to his show in the New Year. Some listeners will already be familiar with Ray through his rugby league and Olympic broadcasts but even for these listeners, we are confident Ray’s morning show will offer them a new level of engagement. Ray is a passionate believer in the power of “the open line” and we know that “having a voice” is more important than ever to regional Australians.”

Ray Hadley said "Having presented a networked football program for over 20 years I'm confident the listeners on stations across Australia will enjoy what we have to offer.

Ray Hadley will be on-air from 9am on Tuesday 27th January.

Interesting that it's going from 9am til 11am...the show doesn't start in Sydney until 10am and most of those regional stations are in the same timezone as Sydney.

Maybe Alan's show won't be extended til 10am in 2009.

Well if he still starts at 5:30 then he might be relieved to get 1 hour off at the end. 4 1/2 hours is a hell of a long time for a live talkback show.

The other thing could be the 9 - 10 slot might focus on rural issues so the listeners in rural areas don't miss out which tends to happen on syndicated radio shows from Sydney.

It'll be interesting to see what happens. I think 2GB might change Hadley's timeslot. Usually, it's the network stations that join later on. Maybe they're doing the extra hour beforehand so people can get to know a bit about Hadley?

So much for him boasting how his show is about 'local issues'. Now there's no commercial Sydney AM station that is local in the morning format.

That is quite true. From next year, the only AM talk station that will be fully local for Sydney in the mornings is 702 ABC Sydney, with Deborah Cameron. Her program is also heard on 92.5 ABC Central Coast, but is most of the time a translator service of 702 anyway. wink.gif

I don't think it'll stop Ray Hadley from being parochial though - certainly no less than what 2UE already is - which means rural listeners might not get the coverage they feel they deserve - unless of course it happens between 9 and 10.

Does Steve Price broadcast in any of the towns that Ray will be going to? In other words, will Ray be competing with Steve in more than just Sydney? Or is it only Leon Delaney who should be worried?

I was actually thinking that myself - but I'm guessing that only one station in each area will take the feed from Sydney with the ownership being the deciding factor as to who broadcasts who.

I know that Steve Price's program can be heard on Radio 1089AM in Orange, Radio 531AM/93.5FM in Kempsey/Port Macquarie & Radio 639AM in Coffs Harbour, which are the same markets in which Ray Hadley will be broadcasting on 2GZ, 2MC & 2CS respectively.

Also, 2WG & 2LF's licence areas overlap with one another in towns such as Cootamundra & Temora in South-Western NSW, meaning that people legally have a choice between Ray Hadley on 2WG & Steve Price on 2LF.

Ray Hadley mentioned on air today that his show is starting from 9am next year, so looks like Alan will be on from 5.30 til 9, with Ray on from 9 til 1.

Confidential reports today that Murray Wilton has been suspended from appearing on his show this week after a falling out with management.

They are unsure as to why this is the case, however they're saying it could be about some recorded regional show that he syndicates. They are also saying he might be the one that leaked the e-mail that Ray Hadley sent to the overnight team about the cleanliness of the staff kitchen, and this could also have something to do with it.

Suzie Yates has been filling in this week.

The Angry Ant is also on 2HD here in Newcastle.

Steve Price smile.gif

It's his nickname based on his height and the occasional on-air dummy spit.

MediaSpy has reported that Ron Wilson will be moving to the 6am Early News on Channel 10.
QUOTE
With Wilson to read Ten’s 6am Early news and his current co-presenter Deborah Knight on maternity leave until July, Woods will be joined by late news presenter Sandra Sully until at least July.

Will this affect his morning news reading agreements with 2GB/2CH?

If he remains with Macquarie, I imagine it would be in a later shift. Maybe he would begin at 10am, instead of finishing then as he does now?

I doubt he will move to a different timeslot at GB.

Be interesting to see what happens anyway, and who the new breakfast newsreader will be.

Also surprised that no one has mentioned that Murray Wilton has been sacked by 2GB. Telegraph had earlier reported that he had been "suspended" but he has actually gone for good. Stupid, stupid decision. Suzy Yates is no comparison, I've found her very boring to listen to.
