Australian pop star Delta Goodrem is said to have dumped her mother as manager.

A Sydney newspaper reported that Goodrem is heartbroken at having to tell her mother, Lea, that she can no longer manage her music career.

The paper quotes a source as saying the showdown was forced on Delta by her US record label, Sony-BMG.

Industry sources say the music giant threatened to stop Delta's bid to break into the American scene if the management issue was not settled, the paper said.

Lea Goodrem took over as manager last March after Delta sacked industry veteran Glenn Wheatley, complaining he spent too much time with his star client, John Farnham.

Goodrem enjoyed a meteoric rise to success under Wheatley, with her debut album Innocent Eyes selling 2.5 million copies.

But since her mother has taken over the reins, Delta has been sued by former music producers, dumped by Mark Philippoussis reportedly for heiress Paris Hilton, and been the subject of a hate campaign in British tabloids for her union with Irish pop star Brian McFadden.

On the music front, her second album Mistaken Identity has already vanished from the Australian top 50 and in the UK it has been a relative flop.

Although many believe Delta needed to get rid of her mother for the sake of her career in the US, it is well known that her mother has been central to both her career and personal life.

When she was diagnosed with potentially life-threatening Hodgkin's Disease, Goodrem was thankful of the support of fans and friends but particularly singled out her mother as being her ''rock''.

Representatives for both Delta and her mum are yet to make comment on the rumours.

This would have to be Karma for not thanking Glenn when she was winning all those ARIA awards.

POP star Delta Goodrem has denied sacking her manager mum but admits she is looking for a new manager to push her international profile.

"I am very disappointed about today's reports," Goodrem said in a message to fans on her official website.

"My relationship with my mother is as strong as ever and we are a great team.

"We have been looking for the right international manager for the next step of my international career.

"I look forward to making an announcement about this shortly. We'll keep you posted."

Newspaper reports suggested Goodrem was heartbroken at having to tell her mother she could no longer manage her music career.

The Herald Sun and Daily Telegraph quoted a source at Goodrem's record label, Sony/BMG, saying the showdown was forced on Delta by the US headquarters of the music company.

The source reportedly said Sony/BMG threatened to stop Delta's bid to break into the American scene if the management issue was not settled.

Lea Goodrem took over as manager last March after Delta sacked industry veteran Glenn Wheatley, complaining he spent too much time with his star client, John Farnham.

The 20-year-old, who is dating fellow singer and former Irish boy-band member Brian McFadden, set her career path as a young teenager when she sent a demo CD to Wheatley.

Wheatley guided the talented singer's career and managed her signing to Sony at 15.

But it was her role in Neighbours that gave Goodrem her big break, with her on-screen singing debut of Born to Try.

Days after her 18th birthday, the single reached number one on the Australian charts and stayed in the top five for three months, going triple platinum with sales of more than 210,000 copies.

It also spent 11 weeks as number three in the top 40 UK charts.

Fans of the Australian performer were pleased by the news she hadn't sacked her mum.

"I am so happy Delta has set the record straight," one fan said on Delta's online forum.

"I knew she wouldn't ditch her mum like that. Will these rumours and lies ever stop?"

Goodrem is in New York, working with record company representatives on a plan for the release of her albums in the US.

In December, Goodrem filmed an episode of US soap series North Shore, beginning her assault on the world's richest, and toughest, music market.

So this doesn't rule out that she is sacking her mother then. She just hasn't done it yet, but will when she finds another manager.

Seems like what she did the first time. Use Wheatley to set herself then dump him for mum (saves money and keep it in the family :P ) now she is looking for another leg up.

Sounds very Holy Valance.

Why is it every time a new record or things arn't going the pop princess' way we get one of these pathetic media outbreaks. :smirk: :o

Well after repeated denials of moving to America, Delta has decided to do just that to concentrate on the American market.

It would belikely that she will get a new manager, someone based in the states, as it would be hard for her mother to continue from Australia. No doubt there will be more media dramas for our Delta as this progresses. crazy.gif

The Deltra train has appeared to have slowed down of late. Her ticket sales have been slow in Australia and many still remain on sale. In order to boost sales she has announced Brian McFadden will now sing their duet together.

According to her spokesperson, Delta seems to think Australian may need a break.

Well that can't be a good sign.

Delta overload. Plus she is boring. She is still immature and all her publicity is based around her cancer(not that she likes to use that for publicity) and her personal relationships (which she doesn't like to talk about). Yeh right.

Delta next Kylie?

By Sandra McLean
July 13, 2005

Dud ... Delta may be the latest Aussie pop star to face a fan backlash.

The backlash that turned Kylie Minogue into a singing budgie for years has hit Delta Goodrem, with a whispering campaign against the singer suggesting her Visualise tour is a dud.

There was a time when the 20-year-old singer and multiple ARIA-award winner could do no wrong after she won the nation's heart with her fight against Hodgkin's lymphoma in 2003.

But the mood has changed and Goodrem has been plagued with questions about low ticket sales since she started the tour last week in Newcastle before 5000 fans.

She has since performed in Perth – to a less-than capacity crowd – and after her Brisbane concert next week will go to Sydney where she faces fans at the SuperDome.

Rumours that tickets to her Brisbane concert on Monday had barely sold were untrue, said Luke Hede of Dainty Consolidated Entertainment.

"She will have sold 80,000 tickets across the country," Mr Hede said.

"It is really disappointing to hear all this misinformation about her concerts. We don't know where it is coming from, and why, but it just isn't true."

Mr Hede said more than 8000 tickets had been sold for her Monday's show at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre which has a 9500 capacity.

Meanwhile, Goodrem has been reunited with boyfriend Brian McFadden.

McFadden flew into Melbourne yesterday to join Goodrem's Visualise national tour.

Tonight's show at Rod Laver Arena will be the first time on the tour he and Goodrem perform their No.1 duet Almost Here on stage.

"Brian is such an amazing talent, for me to have him sing in front of all these people is such a thrill," Goodrem said yesterday.

"It's great he's here in Melbourne. It's where everything started for me. I feel at home in Melbourne - my whole fast-forwarded life started here."

Despite reports of sluggish ticket sales Goodrem has sold out shows in Adelaide and Newcastle so far.

Her Saturday matinee show at Rod Laver has sold out, with only a handful of tickets left for tonight's show.

"All that negativity just made me make sure I had the best show possible," Goodrem said.

"These people don't know me, they've never seen me perform. It's a little judgmental. I really feel we've got a great show. I couldn't be happier."

The show includes a surprise cover of Jet's rock anthem Are You Gonna Be My Girl.

After the tour Goodrem heads to the US, where Billboard has labelled her "a true gimmick-free talent" and "2005's best new artist".

Well, after attending the Brisbane leg of the Visualise tour earlier this evening, i can say that it is one of the best concerts i have been to. All those critics saying it was a dud etc etc were totally wrong. It was well put together, the crew was great, the songs were great and overall the costumes... wow... and in the middle of all that a marraige proposal. As for it not been sold out, that might be true, but tonight there was literally only a handful of seats empty.... in an arena that can hold 10500 people. Pretty good, not to mention she come back twice after the crowd kept chanting biggrin.gif

haha it was all preplanned i presume. Delta was getting into the "Romantic" part of the evening and wanted a couple of stage and picked this copule and come up and Delta said well would you like to do anything and then she hand the mic to him, he started to say sumthing and then Delta run back and told him to get on his knee and then he proposed... it wasn't to her like the one at Queen Street Mall earlier this year but silly.gif

Delta, Brian excite
By Emma Chalmers

Delta Goodrem with Brian McFadden / Rebecca Michael IT has been two years and two albums since she first sang for fans in the Queen Street Mall, but Delta Goodrem finally gave Brisbane its fully fledged encore performance last night.

Shrugging off rumours of poor ticket sales, Australia's pop princess hit the stage at an almost capacity Entertainment Centre for her first and only Brisbane concert as part of her high energy national Visualise tour.

Unlike the intimate affair many anticipated for her first tour, the concert was as much a stage show complete with a decorative set, long catwalk where Goodrem shone in several colourful costume changes alongside a 10-piece band that included a string section.

While Goodrem played the piano to songs like Lost Without You and Not Me, Not I, she was also in command of the stage, dancing and moving her way through the set accompanied by four male back-up dancers.

Many of the concert-goers looked as if it was their first live music experience and Goodrem didn't disappoint as she sang her way through a very full set list with the aid of a chorus of young fans.

With two hit albums – her debut Innocent Eyes which sold a million copies and the follow up five times platinum Mistaken Identity – Goodrem had no shortage of ammunition from her first No. 1 Born To Try to the latest single A Little Too Late.

She also dug out a few songs that weren't her own with a surprise rendition of Jet's hit Are You Gonna Be My Girl.

Goodrem's beau, former Westlife member Brian McFadden also thrilled the crowd with an on-stage appearance alongside his girlfriend after flying in to join her from overseas last week.

They took to the stage for an intimate rendition of their No. 1 duet Almost Here.
