I am changing the channel whenever I see those. It's my own protest against being over-commercialised.

They've tweaked it a few times already.. its very transparent and the proper sizing now (was a little thin the other day).
Easily the best watermark out of all the nine affiliates, and no NWS style coverups..

Congratulations J Bar, your comment made it into The Australian's Media liftout today. Amanda Meade is obviously a reader of these forums.

'Nine programmer Michael Healy told Diary he came up with the idea while watching American television and thought it could work here.'

Actually, while watching last week's US episode of Smallville from its channel of origin (The CW) I was astonished to see exactly this tactic being employed there - this is a channel that, like Nine, puts its VERY bright and nearly opaque watermark inside the 4:3 safe area, and in this episode, they stuck a spam ad for the pathetic "Top Model" right ABOVE it. Distracting is too kind a word for it. This network also does REALLY obnoxious pop-up program promos (all 4:3 safe) that make SBS's pop-ups look lovely by comparison.
Interestingly, The CW is half-owned by Warner, a company that Nine has dealings with.
Excellent news for today is that The Chopping Block was a ratings disaster of the first order. Proving comprehensively that all these bugs do is annoy people, but they don't get people to watch their rubbish programming.

I think you'll find The Chopping Block did not rate because people didn't connect with the show or have an interest in it. THere is absoluetly no proof that these bugs don't work. Do you even understand why they are there?
They are NOT there to make people watch a show. They are there to raise awareness. They are not mean to do much to encourage intent to view. With 20 odd new shows premiering across the 3 networks in the space of 2 weeks - it's a cluttered marketplace. Consumers (viwers) cant be expected to remember and know all the shows. There is only so much promo time on Nine to promote new shows. These bugs are a way of creating brand awareness for shows - and promoting the name. Getting the name out there.
Think a little more as to why these networks employ these devices, Its not as cut and dry as you think.
