That was after it moved, as I said in the HD channels thread it started out over the bottom corner of the HD then disappeared. It then reappeared over the dots and slowly stretched and moved over the rest of the nine part.

Hopefully swallowing their pride, giving up and just going with the dotty logo like the rest of Australia...

WIN is now using their news-style blockmark on the E-RING

and wishing that 9HD could keep their watermark in the one spot again! The WIN HD one just went through the whole shifting and resizing process again. Hopefully they'll be able to get a clean feed soon but it's good to finally get one of the multichannels.

Note to Nine: See this frame from the logo's animation on the PRG? Make the logo there transparent and you have a perfectly good watermark!

I thought the Nine was bad enough until I checked WIN. Just as said, the actual shows have the same watermark. Worst. Watermark. Ever.

Moe is also right, that shiny one looks much nice... even the faded version just before the animation turns into the current logo. Still, that circle with the off-centered HD is badly designed.

One thing - it should be shoved right now that they have the ability to frame the "now" in 16:9 HD. Also, what is the deal with calling it "full HD" - isn't that the 1920x1080 marketing term? Sorry Nine, guess you can't use that one either.

That is half the opacity of the one in Melbourne. (edit: just realised I might have missed your point there and that that is the frame before the watermark that stays)

If you look close its not 100% opaque either.. you can see a very faint Dotty nine underneath.
I have a feeling this won't last though.. as its just too extreme.

As with all WIN's coverups, the blame lies with Nine not supplying a clean feed, when WIN have a clean feed their watermarks are OK.

i would like to see someone come out with a full high def ident, signpost, PRG and watermark. then, and only then, will i stop being pissed off by people constantly badgering watermarks etc.

As you may have noticed on nightline, the NineHD bug is in position to not look fucked on the news, with the HD added on outside of 4x3 safe. Maybe there should be two bug positions...but again, produce a high def bug that's better than that. (and I dont mean tacky SD Photoshop 5second job.)

So they went back to the old version? Images of the original design below - they are from a while back before they added the box "HD". I am using these to see if the new is the same.

it looks essentially the same as the old ones

The watermark on SD during normal programming is in a different spot to where the watermark for the news is, there is no reason that this can't be the case for HD. There is no technical difficulty in reducing the opacity of the watermark, or to move it, or to shrink it down. Ten did it with their HD watermark, Seven moved theirs out to the 16:9 safe region and Nine had it out there prior to dotty's return. Viewers are fine to complain when a backwards step is made, I have no problem with watermarks, I do have a problem when they are excessively bright.

I'm sick of people using the 'well you do better' approach to dealing with complaints. Just because someone isn't able to do something themselves they still can be annoyed about things like this. These people are being paid to make these things and they have gone through training to be able to do things properly, if someone does their job badly why does someone have to be better at doing it before they can complain?

I have to agree with that, if I went to a doctor and wasn't treated correctly I wouldn't expect to be told "fine, you do it better". People are trained and get paid for the work they do, just because it is not good it doesn't mean that we have no right to complain without doing it ourselves. Anyway, I often do a mock design of what I prefer and already did in this case showing how lighter would be better. With a bit of time I might also try to alter the "HD" and see how it looks.

Replying to myself again but anyway...

Why don't Nine go back to what they had ages ago with the words "HIGH DEFINITION" under the watermark? Below is a simple version with the words embossed to match (slightly - not the best at graphics) the rest of the logo. Oh yeah, it is also reduced in opacity by 50% as it should be.

I don't think that's as fancy as what they want - and what Nine wants is the BBC HD/Seven HD format logo.
