Just had a look at WIN WA's watermark, must say it's a lot better! Here it looks to be in the exact same design as STW's watermark and for once WIN has one of the best watermarks.

why is the nine branding "such a joke"?

I do like PBL nine's watermark and the way it animates (we only see it on NineHD here) but the biggest problem is it too distracting and too big unlike WINs which is smaller and more transparent.

It is 4:3 safe, dark as anything, looks old fashioned, isn't "flat", the HD looks ridiculous. I could go on forever. There is absolutely nothing at all that I like about the new Nine watermark or on-air presentation.

Watching last night there were two watermarks in use on WIN. One in the top right hand corner on Two and a Half Men and from about 3/4 of the way through Bewitched (wasn't there when I was channel surfing but later on it was) and a different one in the bottom right hand corner during Police Ten 7, Airline and the first 3/4 of the movie. The second watermark did look very pixelated and not very pretty close up however the one in the top corner was very smooth and very nice. A much better improvement.

The WIN with out the dots is really growing on me I didn't think it would but I think I prefer it now (just looks polish)

Nice one WIN, it really shows off just how much of a joke the Nine watermark is in comparison. I really wish I got both (reception) all the time so I could choose the regional network.

Don't know which city you live in 'offline', but here in Sydney, WIN, as well as Prime from Wollongong, can be received across most of the metropolitan area on a permanent basis, depending on the location & the antenna setup. yes.gif

Whilst I don't mind the Seven watermark (it's not as obtrusive as Nine's), I reckon that the Prime watermark is much better placed, being on the top right-hand corner as opposed to the bottom right-hand corner, and it's almost unnoticeable.

Who would've thought that WIN, who once had the most obtrusive watermark anywhere on Australian FTA, now has one of the least obtrusive watermarks on Australian FTA! eek.gif

I still prefer Southern Cross for lack of obtrusiveness, no watermark!

But remember before the worst watermark in Australia, the previous gold one in the top corner was also very unobtrusive, so they have pretty much come full circle in that regard.

Oh yeah, I remember the watermark that WIN used for many years up until 1st September 2002. I thought that was WIN at its finest, as far as their watermark is concerned. yes.gif

Whilst the new watermark on WIN is a much better improvement on the map watermark, I still prefer Nine's. I was in Sydney today and managed toget a glimpse of their watermark and it is much more nicer and transparent than the current WIN watermark.

I noticed a new ten watermark on the Golf this morning, normal Ten watermark but with a bit of an inner shadow effect

Southern Cross Darwin has no watermark for it's programs. I hate the Ten (Not SC Ten problem but I'll hate to think what there watermark would look like if they got a clean feed from Ten) logo (Really it's 'old' even the revamp logo I hate), however Prime's logo is good (pity Win wouldn't go back tp that watermark which was used in the late 90s IIRC) but Win watermark is better then it has been for sometime. Now all Win needs now is a clean feed from Nine (NNN, ACA and NineHD).

I wonder if DTD (Ten Darwin) would ever get a watermark? Does TDT (Ten Tasmania) ever have one? I don't ever recall Southern Cross here in Darwin having a watermark at all but Nine here does sport the same watermark as it does in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

TDT just uses the Ten watermark. I didn't see any TDT branding at all when I watched a little of it last night.

So you did have digital at the place? Anyway, yeah TDT is all just Ten branding, their "official" logo has "Tasmanian Digital Television" written in it, I've probably got a cap on an old tape somewhere but that branding hasn't been seen since their filler material in the adbreaks during the first year where they had loops of scenery and music until paid advertising came on. Once or twice they have also sponsored things like a music festival and use the full logo but the on-air presentation is all just ten's.

Just a further comment about the Ten watermarks, on the HD channel we have the normal Ten SD watermark during all the upconverted non-HD programming. During HD programming we get the Ten HD watermark but there is none of the extra Ten HD programming, just upconverting of the SD.

It was weird... the hotel is obviously getting digital because we had TDT and ABC2, but they must have rebroadcast it through the hotel in a way that it was only in 4:3, it was analogue quality, and the picture was distorted - did not fit the screen and parts of it were cut off.

Much better, similar to PRIME. One thing still, they should squish the HD letters a bit to match the WIN more.
