Woah! Can you see that watermark from space? silly.gif

The "HD" word styling is too simliar to the Nine logo, I've also noticed...

It looks like an afterthought, squeezing in two letters where it was designed to have just one digit.

The whole logo seems basically an afterthought. It doesn't even match the stylings of the ABC1/2 logos.

A don't mind that new watermark but maybe a little too bright but not as big as the old one.

With the ABC HD watermark, why do they feel the need to increase the size? If they want to change between ABC1/2/HD then why not move it to the 16:9 safe areas? A comparison of ABC1 and ABCHD resized to 1024x576...

I think they should simply have it standardised between each channel, the same size and location would be fine. Also remove the whole HD-stuck-together and put it superscript at a higher brightness similar to the old Sky HD watermark.

Note: I wanted a black image to show an example so this image is from a quick Google Search using the BBC "Ice Worlds" as a term. The copyright of this image remains that of the original owner.

Much better! I have to say the ABC is looking rather uncoordinated with the coloured watermarks ranging in sizes, interfering with on air supers, it's a complete mess!

The 'HD' is meant to be stylised I think..it looks OK.

Do bear in mind that this is the greatest level of consistency they've ever had in terms of watermarks so we're not doing too bad. Every channel has a proper brand now and they seem to be using them..of course they aren't universally attractive but it's a step in the wrong direction. The ABC brand guidelines (that dictate the squiggle, name, and 'ABC' must be there at all times) don't really work in this instance.

Are watermarks necessary anyway? For many categories of programming it could be avoided entirely.

ABC HD is now showing the green watermark on all programming, not just native HD. However it has been shrunk to roughly the same size as ABC1/2 and made more transparent.

Edit: Though native HD still has the bigger and more opaque one.

The new coverup logo (beyond a watermark really) for "The View" which is replacing the original ABC logo. Previously they had the Nine at the top right.
