WIN does not have the right to get pure clean feeds of News and Sport just because they pay million. They shouldn't cover them up either because they did not produce it.

Now I get you...but still don't agree with you. I can't see a problem with it, and apparently, neither does Nine, for the time being.

They wouldn't have a problem. Nine's logo is all over their feed, regardless of whether its a watermark or not. "National Nine News", the Nine microphones, blazers, graphics & of course "Nine's Wide World of Sports".

As long as the Oztam ratings remain in the five cities, Nine won't worry at all. They're making a fortune from affilates desperate for programming, and all they have to do for this is provide a feed, and half the time its not even clean. Easy money, and that's all that matters, the cash.

When the national ratings expand to include areas like Geelong, Newcastle, Canberra, etc, then we will 100% see affilate contracts with clauses saying those areas must be branded as Nine, Seven & Ten. Won't be to long I suspect either.

Until then, the relay stations in the bush can do whatever they like with the dirty feeds, because soon enough the local branding they've spent all this time on building will be obliterated altogether.

Considering OzTam is owned by Seven, Nine and Ten, I cannot see the other two (Seven and Ten) allow for regional ratings to count. They both know they'd be killed by WIN and NBN.

*sigh* All the media companies chairmen and CEOs need a gunshot to the head...I'm getting fed up with this... hyper.gif

I know in our region in Victoria, we now watch a hell of alot more Prime than Win, we always used to watch Local news on Win the NNN then Home and Away on prime, Now we watch Deal or no deal, 7news, Today Tonight and the it stays on prime or SC10 for the rest of the evening. Simple fact is Prime now has better programing than Win IMO, plus it helps that Primes On air Presentation is ten times better and more consistant that the other two, Don't get me started on SC10!!!!

But your viewing doesn't reflect the general population, WIN news rates really well in Victoria (according to the last figures I saw) and WIN nearly always thrashes Prime in the ratings (often by 10 or more %)

We're all getting a bit off-topic, but ponder the following.....

Compare the metro figures to regional.
While Nine often loses to Seven, WIN hardly ever loses to Prime.
Why is this?.....afterall as has been stated above, it's basically the same programme line-up.

Maybe WIN markets/promotes their offering better?
Maybe WIN's conviction to local news helps.
Maybe it's their different programme line-ups when they breakaway from Nine (eg: 1800 - 1930 weekdays)
Maybe the viewers like their watermarks better! (There's the hook to getting back on topic cheerful.gif )

Anyway, as watermarks are a relatively new "invention" (say the last 5 years), it's possible that many affiliation contracts are of the same length so the request for a totally clean programme feed wasn't a consideration.

There are two basic reasons metros brand (ie: watermark) their programme streams:
1) - To protect their sport & exclusive programmes (eg: Cricket/NRL/AFL/News/ACA/etc)
2) - Because it's cheaper/easier to put it on the Network feed rather than supering at each metro site

Workarounds COULD be created to allow for clean regional feeds.

Anyway, it's conceivable that watermarks on these regional feeds will be the first agenda items on future affiliation agreements!

Well I think WIN's watermark for regular programming is better than nine's. It's smaller and more transparent.

Yeah i know that, where are these figures obtained? i never hear anything about regional ratings anywhere. Mabey the reason Win news rates so well in Victoria is becasue there is no competition Local news wise. it's either watch Seven news with little regional content, or watch Win for a full local bulitin. I Watch Seven news casue i can't stand Dennis Walter, and i have newspapers for local news.

Yes it is ten times better than nines for programing, but what annoys me is when they put the WIN news one over the nine watermark during news ect. Why cover the watermark when everyone knows that the feed is coming from nine. If they want to put a win logo on it, why not just put a little win above the nine? If they are so keen to hide their affiliation why not do what NBN do and produce a whole Bullitin that covers local, national and international news, or prehaps they should cover the 9 logo in the opener of NNN silly.gif

But wasn't this thread created for just such discussion with the following 18 pages of postings tending to support said discussion?

And having worked previously at a regional station (hanging off a metro), I wish you could better understand the difficulties the NBN's, Prime's, Sthn X's & WIN's have to deal with. Afterall, they pay MILLIONS for a programme feed but then the metro station super watermarks all over the output feed, some top right, then bottom left, 70% key level then 100%, then adding the word "Live" to the super, then e-mailing advisement of the type & placement but then doing something totally different on the night.

And you can't blame any business for trying to maintain a degree of ownership on their final product by trying cover up some elses brand logo.

If they are paying the major networks millions for there feed they should be getting a CLEAN FEED!!! Sorry that is just the way I feel!
p.s why do southern cross ten get a clean feed at certain times and the ten watermark at others?

WIN has a new look NEWS watermark this evening. Its basically the same as the one displayed during the Terri Irwin interview, but 'NEWS' instead of 'NETWORK'. Much worse than the old one.

I'm guessing that they will have a similar one for tommorow's NRL finals but with 'SPORT' displayed underneath it?

Any caps would be appreciated

not to mention that it's now not transparent at all, more a logo than a watermark. I wont leave WIN on for more than 5 mins on my plasma. Their loss...
