Plus, now that I think about it, that awesome postcard shot you see of Brisbane and the cliffs, even the bridge, is just ruined now.
Riparian is fugly, and what the hell is that awful thing being built between Bruce and Heather?
It is hideous!

Brisbane is becoming hideous - Admiralty was the start of the decline!

That point by MelbourneTV has inspired me to start a thread about the city skylines in Australia & around the world.

IMO, Sydney has a very crowded skyline, but is nice, feeling like a global city. Perth has a very nice skyline too, and is more spacey than Sydney & Melbourne. Melbourne is very nice too.

What are other people's opinions on city skylines in various cities?

Adelaide's not that great. We don't have a lot of buildings but we look nice from certain angles anyway.

Re-posting my shot of the city. Not your typical postcard view. Sydneys CBD seems to be the most densely packed one of the lot.

It does look very packed. Here are some pics of Brisbanes skyline. The first (in daylight) was taken a week before Christmas from Mount Coot-tha. The second is a pic taken in January at night from the Kangaroo Point Cliffs. The third picture I have attached (all pics taken by yours truly biggrin.gif ) is one from Currumbin looking towards Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast. At night it looks absolutely stunning from there cheerful.gif .

Canberra has a good skyline...unsure.gif

I like all of them really. But it depends on angle. Some skylines look fantastic from one angle then absolute shit from another.

We do. The design of the city makes it have some real good skylines (along with the hills). Tuggeranong (local part of the ACT where I live (there is also Woden, Weston Creek, Canberra (the main city) and Belconnen as the current main areas)) can give you a good skyline/buildings photo.

I should go out someday and take a few photos of the various skylines in the ACT.

I think all our cities have very nice skylines.
Hobart's is probably the most boring of the capital cities.
The Gold Coast sure has the longest.

Melbourne's looks fantastic from some angles, but from others it is revolting.
I love driving across the Bolte Bridge at night with the line of towers from Carlton down to the bay all lit up. It looks fricken awesome!
I would love to have access to the top of the Bolte's towers. I could sit there for hours.

I think Brisbane had a truely stunning skyline 5 years ago, but recent additions such as Riparian have ruined it for good.
The Admiralty development should have never been approved, nor Riparian.

The first pic isnt terribly good (dodge camera) but in reality it was awesome.
The second pic is one of my fav views of my fav city!

Well generally to create a nice Skyline, gaps are needed, so the shapes of buildings stand out......therfor it looks like a city, not a bunch of buildings in one big square...

I concur: Melbourne is incredibly beautiful at night. Every time I go to Safeway at night, I can see the CBD in the distance and, no matter how many times I see it, I still find it wonderful.

At some point in my life, probably during a long and boring speech, I'm going to actually run out of adjectives ending with "ful".
