Hey guyz...

A thread to discuss our memories of TV in the past.... however far back you want to go.

Some may remember the introduction of colour
Some may remember last week's episode of Home and Away <_<

Whatever.. whenever.. post it here.

Actually, the idea for this thread came from the discussion over Seven's use of the slogan "First In Melbourne"

While I don't remember the start of TV in Australia (Shut up ehben)
I do remember the arrival of colour... the slogans for the various channels were:

TEN: First in Colour
SEVEN: Colour My World
NINE: Living Colour

At least I think that's right... I was very young

Guru Status achieved...

... Millie Member? Congrats, mate, btw, on the 500 .

I was born in the era where aggreation wiped out any localism remaining...

However, I do remember NBN's last ID...."we're with you"...I loved that as a little kid....

Shame they had to replace it with the completly boring Nine dot grid.

I think this site belongs to one of the members of MS:
AusTV history
Regardless, it's a terrific site with lots of really interesting clips.
Given that this is the history thread I thought I should draw your attention to it.

Enjoy

Thanks fot that guru...

I miss the huge Channel Nine events, like the opening of the Sydney Entertainment Centre and Fox Studios etc...

Though I can only remember as far back as Romper Room.

Unlike Newsworld of course, who recalls the six chimes of the Sydney GPO and a man signalling "Hello and welcome to the ABC... our first radio broadcast"...
And now the news...

I'm a TV child of the 80's, but my earliest memory of watching TV was watching the Bird Man rally on Ten in the late 70's. Ah man that was fun.

Does anyone remember if there was any viewer reaction/outrage at the time at Nine's use of the American spelling for colour in their ID?

Well it didn't last long...

Actually, it was NINE Living C-o-l-o-r (see avator). I've also noticed it at the end of the old "Sullivans" episodes WIN have been airing at 3:30am.

Does anyone remember if there was any viewer reaction/outrage at the time at Nine's use of the American spelling for colour in their ID?

You're right!
And I do remember the outrage...
But Armac is correct too.. it didn't last long.

I never like Nine's "color" logo.. seemed to me that it was the crappiest of them all.

Did the ABC have a slogan?

Don't get me started about the word 'color'. I remember a letter to the editor in TV Week in the 80's about continuously using it on the covers ("Full Color Poster Of George Michael Inside!" etc).

Their response at the time was that it was a generally accepted way of spelling it in the publishing and media world.

Not sure if they still use it - haven't bought a TV Week in years.

And now the news...

i have a vague memory of some news opener, ten i think, was it the challenger day... it's deep in the recesses of my head. i don't have that one on tape... but i think the opener had like a cream or beige thing going on and you know one of those 80s picture collage little boxes flying everywhere. was this a dream or not, i will probably never know the real story
"channel 10. first in news and current affairs!"

Other slogans I remember:

ABC: It's Your ABC (not anymore it ain't)
NRTV: That's Entertainment
Prime: Your Local Station, This is Where We Live

My first memories of Ten I think are of the blockbusters they aired in the Rupurt Murdoch days - Raiders, Superman, Star Wars, whatever else their open cheque book bought at the time :_)

Hmmm slogans....

Seven Brisbane for years was "Love you Brisbane" which was sent up by people saying "Shove You Brisbane"

Seven Melbourne has something like "Hello Melbourne"

Seven Perth had "Hello Perth" I think at one stage

Channel 0 Brisbane (Now 10) had "Stand up and tell 'em Brisbane's great" (or was that "grate" )

Anyone else?

Well during a nanna nap this afternoon... I realised that the "1st In Melbourne" slogan was actually used quite regularly at Seven back when Jennifer Keyte was reading...

Which is interesting... they've brought back "Nobody Knows News" and now "1st in Melbourne"...

Maybe we will again see Inouk and Jennifer shouting out HELLO MELBOURNE!!!

(I know Armac, the whip...)
And now the news...

Channel 0 Brisbane (Now 10) had "Stand up and tell 'em Brisbane's great" (or was that "grate"  )

TV0 copied that from KFSN 30 Fresno...theirs went along the lines of "Stand up and tell 'em Fresno's great!"

If you want proof...visit TV-ARK

Also, does anyone remember some of NBN's other promos? I know of:

"Just For You"
"Three's For Me"
"We're With You"
"Three Is A Crowd"

Well it didn't last long...

That reminds me of the brief yellow logo Ch10 used for a while. It was really quite crap.
