Fans of Club Veg will be sad to learn that radio presenter Vic Davies passed away yesterday after a battle with lung cancer.

Quote

Radio announcer Vic Davies passed away on Saturday, 7 November at 1.30pm after a short battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Jodie; his children, Harmony, Carrie, Rick and Jamie; and his grandchildren, Domenic, Jaxson, Thomas and Mia.

Davies received the diagnosis of lung cancer just before his 55th birthday in July but unfortunately the disease had spread to other organs.

Vic will be best remembered as one-half of the Club Veg radio duo (with Malcolm Lees) heard on Triple M and other stations in the 1980s, 1990s and early 2000s. He originally got his break on Triple J before moving to 2SM.

Thanks for that - I knew he wasn't well but didn't know the cancer was that far advanced :tombstone:

Damn. :( Knew Vic had inoperable cancer, didn't realize he'd be gone so soon.

Whether doing nights (peaking at over 20% back in 1990),evenings,drive,breakfast,or wherever else 2mmm stuck him & Mal,they were absolutely fantastic.
Never had much chance to listen to Club Veg on 2SM,aside from their classic 1988 "Members & Guests...& Things" album.
Singing silly song parodies or driving the "Carlton Kombi" on Mix in 1994/95.
Oh! "The Lost Beatle Demo Tapes"! How funny were they?

I have heaps of his stuff on cassette(! yes,I'm :old: ) that I'll now hurry up & transfer to cd to make sure it's safely preserved.

Vale Vic.What a tremendous talent he was. :tombstone:

I had the pleasure of working with Club Veg up until the end of their show on Triple M. I have some absolute radio gold I produced with Vic. Very sad to hear of his passing, but also glad I had the experience of working with such talent. You will be missed Vic.

I've head it a few times on 4MMM when I've listened :>

Edit: Aand here's 4MMM's Cold 30 block from 19:00 to 22:00 from when it was on earlier (can't really say 'tonight' when it started at 09:00 for me. :P)

February 1980.

30. Once In A Lifetime - Talking Heads.
29. Stop The Cavalry - Jona Lewie.
28. Cheap Wine - Cold Chisel.
27. Coming Up - Paul McCartney.
26. Just Keep Walking - INXS.
25. Poor Boy - Split Enz.
24. Happiest Days Of Our Lives/Another Brick In The Wall - Pink Floyd.
23. Modern Girl - James Freud.
22. Johnny And Mary - Robert Palmer.
21. No Secrets - The Angels.
20. Hungry Heart - Bruce Springsteen.
19. Private Idaho - B52's.
18. Babooshka - Kate Bush.
17. We Live For Love - Pat Benatar.
16. Kiss Is On My List - Hall & Oats.
15. It's Still Rock'n' Roll To Me - Billy Joel.
14. Whatever You Want - Status Quo.
13. Romeo's Tune - Steve Forbert.
12. Shandi - Kiss.
11. Call Me - Blondie.
10. Games Without Frontiers - Peter Gabriel.
09. Shake Your Tailfeather - Blues Brothers.
08. Refugee - Tom Petty.
07. Don't Stand So Close To Me - The Police.
06. Another One Bites The Dust - Queen.
05. Rockabilly Rebel - Major Matchbox.
04. Master Blaster - Stevie Wonder.
03. Turning Japanese - The Vapors.
02. Can't Help Myself - Icehouse.
01. The Tide Is High - Blondie.
We'll Be Together - Sting.
Be Good Johnny - Men At Work.
She Sells Sanctuary - The Cult.
Too Late For Goodbyes - Julian Lennon.
I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For - U2.
Run Runaway - Slade.
Money's Too Tight (To Mention) - Simply Red.
White Wedding - Billy Idol.
Current Stand - Kids In The Kitchen.
Edge Of Seventeen - Stevie Nicks.
Pour Some Sugar On Me - Def Leppard.
Tonight I'm Yours - Rod Stewart.
Talkin' Bout A Revolution - Tracy Chapman.
I Send A Message - INXS.

Loved the music played (was amused and happy to hear Rockabilly Rebel and Romeo's Tune for some reason, too)

As a little side question, are 4MMM the only one to mate Another Brick In The Wall with Happiest Days Of Our Lives? I've only ever heard the former on other Triple M stations. (Seem to be more album versions of songs on 4MMM compared to my listening to 2MMM and 5MMM too, while I think about it)
Anyone have any ideas why that's the case or so?

That Cold 30 List Of Songs Makes You Wonder How Much Better Triple M Sydney & Melbourne Would Do If They Had The Brisbane Mentality In Everything They Do :scratchchin:

Remember that Vega only say they do that but if it was programmed like Brisbane i reccon they would leave Vega Wallowing in there wake

Is 102.9 Hot Tomato doing anything for Vic Davies? Seeing the other half of Club Veg is on that station (Mal Lees) it would be nice - although I doubt it based on the 'falling out' I've read about.

Also, I found this link on Google. It's interesting that the website's still online:

Anyone else finding 2MMM's signal strength lower than normal today? Usually I get between 2 & 3 bars;haven't got over 1 all day.And it's dipping under that tonight.
Before anyone asks,it's only 2MMM that's weaker than normal for me today.

Funny you mention that because I noticed it a little last week as well.

The signal got so weak that by 8.30 last night I gave up.Though turns out it wasn't just 2MMM-2Day was the same. They were the only two stations I normally receive that were weak.

Cost cutting by not using as much power maybe?

3MMM are really starting to push the boundaries with their new 'classic rock' format. Now playing on the station is "Crunchy Granola Suite" by Neil Diamond.

I just wish their 'new rock' would refer to stuff just released now - not stuff released sometime between 2005-2009 that has been flogged to death.
