As Seven gears up to launch its long awaited second digital channel, the network has applied for five trademarks which may provide clues in relation to the branding of the new channel.

Channel MateThe Spy Report has learned that the Seven Network filed trademark applications on Tuesday to register five images. All five designs contain “Mate”, “Channel Mate” or variations thereof. The representations variously depict sonic waves and a stylised silhouette of a man with his arms outstretched.

TSR has been told that “Channel Mate” is at this stage a likely choice to be the name of the second channel, but these reports remain unconfirmed. Seven’s head corporate affairs Simon Francis did not directly comment on the designs when contacted by TSR last night, saying only that “we’ll reveal our second channel shortly”.

The five designs as available from the IP Australia website can be seen here:

Media reports have previously indicated that the second channel will appear on digital channel 72, but it is thought that it will not necessarily be given that name.
