The Movie Network has launched Movie Box, Australia's first subscription on-demand movie service.

The service allows subscribers to receive on demand movies to their television.

Drawing from the extensive libraries of MNC’s partner studios, Disney, MGM, Village Roadshow and Warner Bros., the service will offer an on demand library of 30 movies at any given time. And with seven titles added / subtracted from the library each week, customers will effectively have a new movie available to view each day of the year.

The Movie Box service will launch in June 2010 on fetchtv, and is included as part of the fetchtv basic subscription package. Customers will have instant access to all available movies and the ability to pause, re-wind, fast forward and repeat view for up to 30 days.

Movie Box on fetchtv is delivered in Standard Definition and is unmetered. Fetchtv leverages a unique multicast delivery over closed IP networks, with titles stored in an encrypted format on the STB.

Commenting on the launch of the service, CEO of Movie Network Channels, Tony Forrest said,

“MNC is uniquely positioned as Australia's only independent subscription movie channel service provider. As a result, we are able to develop new subscription VOD products, such as MOVIE BOX, for new platforms like fetchtv.

“The emerging TV landscape of internet delivered services will see an increasing customer appetite for on demand movies offered as an integral part of a total subscription package. These will be unencumbered by the cost of pay per view and expensive data and download charges.

“We are delighted to take this ground breaking step forward alongside fetchtv. Launching Movie Box as part of such progressive technology will allow an even greater audience to access the movies they want, when they want them.”
