The ABC will begin filming on a new situation comedy series next week, based on a gay science fiction fan club, and the lives, loves and never-ending dramas of its geeky members.
The six-part series, titled Outland, will star singer Christine Anu (Rae) in a lead role, along with Ben Gerrard (Toby), Paul Ireland (Andy), Adam Richard (Fab) and Toby Truslove (Max), according to The Sunday Telegraph.
ABC’s head of comedy, Debbie Lee, said, "We are delighted to be collaborating again with Princess Pictures on another new and weirdly wonderful comedy and welcome the opportunity to work with the creative talents of writers John Richards and Adam Richard and the brilliant and funny Outland cast."
Producer Laura Waters, added, "Princess Pictures is proud that closeted science fiction fans will finally have a voice and that a full family of gay Australian characters can go where they never ventured before - primetime television."
It will be produced and filmed in Melbourne by the same team behind the highly popular Summer Heights High and John Safran's Race Relations.
The ABC had originally flagged the comedy to air this year, but it is now expected to premiere in mid 2011.
