The popular comedian and television presenter Adam Hills will front a weekly talk show next year, the ABC announced today.
Hills will begin hosting the hour-long programme, entitled Adam Hills in Gordon St Tonight, from early in 2011. The ABC says that the programme will have "all the usual talk show trimmings", including a range of comedic and musical content.
"I'm really excited to be allowed to have the run of the ABC studios for a few months," Hills said.
"It feels like Mum and Dad are leaving town and have given me the keys to the studio. I'm gonna invite a few friends around, have some good chats, play some good music, and try not to trash the place."
Hills will take on the new role in addition to his existing commitments as the presenter of Spicks and Specks, which will enter its seventh season next year. The music trivia show has been one of the broadcaster's most reliable performers, averaging around 1.2 million viewers per week.
"Adam is a talented and extremely popular member of the ABC family," said Amanda Duthie, the ABC's head of arts and entertainment.
"He's a natural host and he's bursting with big ideas. We can't wait to see him bring us his very own take on the tonight show tradition."
